I have an S13 and I park in the street, normally 1 or two blocks away. So it's in the quarter mile range, but I heard from my friend that objects in the way such as houses and restaurants etc. lower reception. For that reason, should I buy a mile range?

What range do you have on your car and why? I'm pretty set on buying a Clifford, but would like something with the best bang for the buck. Any other info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have a Viper alarm which is essentially the same as a Clifford but a little cheaper, same company, same alarm, different color remote is really the only difference. I've got the 1/4 mile range on mine with remote start, the distance is okay, but your friend is right, objects in your way will effect your range. It is alright for me because I park right outside my house, but I say if your are parking regularly at a distance of 1 or 2 blocks from your home that you go with the mile range. The only downside with the mile range is that it takes a little bit longer for the signal to travel, for instance even if you are right next to the car, a mile range alarm might take a second or a few seconds longer than the quarter mile alarm. I believe this is because it uses AM technology vs the FM technology of the quarter mile. But yeah, for you I would say go ahead and get the mile range, no point in having a 2 way alarm if you're not even in range right?

Clifford Matrix models are the same as Viper and cost the same for comparable models. I have the Clifford Matrix 50.5X on my truck. It is a "up to one mile range" (SST) product. All 2 way paging alarms I have ever sold have some type of communication delay (maybe 1-3 seconds) when the alarm is triggered but no delay during arm/disarm, start, etc. Additional range is very helpful in urban areas where buildings and RF interference reduce the effective transmit/receive range. Weather also affects range. More range is better IMO. SST models use 900MHz digital modulation spread spectrum. G5 models offer better sensors, more sensor inputs, multiple kills, coded valet, etc but no 2 way paging. Harder to steal the car but alarm won't contact you when the alarm sounds unless you add a GPS tracker to it.
