I purchased a 2009 over the weekend, dealer still has it as I haven't picked it up yet (or not taken delivery yet), but the problem is I realized it doesn't have a car alarm installed. Any ideas what it costs to have the factory alarm installed? I'm wondering how I can negotiate this.

(edit) I talked to my sales guy, he says the car does have the Vehicle Security System but no shock sensor. Can you guys tells me exactly what this security protection does do? I can't find anything online! Car will be parked in my driveway so I make sure it's protected.

thanks!

You're still protected. The horn will sound if anyone opens a door.

A shock sensor will sound the alarm if the car is shaken or bumped. This isn't really required in most areas. Actually it can be a nuisance.

The alarm impact sensor is just one more bit more of security. I've seen the "Vehicle Alarm Impact Sensor" available as an add on accessory from Nissan but not available for the Murano. That seems odd to me.

I have an impact sensor on my other vehicle that was never really a big nuisance. However I prefer to be alerted if someone either jams their car door into mine or bumps it with their own vehicle in a parking lot. And also if someone does try to break the glass while attempting to enter the vehicle, the VSS does me no good if the alarm doesn't go off while a would be theif crawls through the back window, for example, to attempt to steal something or rummage through the car while looking for sometime that may be hidden from obvious view. Too many thieves are too bold these days.
