Hellooo,

After having my car broken into, I am in dire need of a car alarm. I was just wondering, if I bought one online, what would I have to do to ensure it was compatible with the Versa? Any recommendations?

Second, what would you personally recommend? Growing up in a small town, no one I knew had car alarms . Basically the types I've ran into so far in my city are Clifford, Viper, and Compustar, but if there are better quality online for about the same price, I'm all for it. I do know the previous alarm I had on my MR2 would start beeping if people were near it for a long period of time, so I would like high security similar to that, but not ridiculously high.. ya know? Two-way, definitely though.

Thanks for your help, guys!

I was always intrigued by the Scosche.

If you have the power package, remember that your Nissan OEM security system cannot be integrated into whatever alarm, so you will have to replae your Nissan fobs with whatever ones came with the alarm.

This is the one thing that stopped me from going out and getting a new alarm when my V was broken into... while a new alarm would be more secure, I have had nothing but problems with aftermarket fobs. It also doesn't matter what brand. After a year in my pocket, they invariably go insane.

Anyway, the other thing to consider is installation. If you are planning on installing it yourself, go right ahead and order online. But a lot of local install shops will NOT install an alarm unless you purchased it from them.

IMHO, an alarm is one of those things you should buy locally and have installed, unless you're going to do the install yourself.

Even if you opt to go that route, you may run into warranty issues. I know at least one company (Clifford) won't honor the warranty on their alarms unless it is installed by a certified dealer.

It all depends on what type of security you are looking for. You can go from basic, to all out with added convenience of being able to disable your car online. DEI is the best and only company I deal with when it comes to car alarms. DEI makes Hornet, Python, Clifford, Viper, etc. Tell me what you would like the alarm to do, and I can give you suggestions and opinions on what you should look for and get.

Yeah there's one shop that installs anything you bring to it around here but I wanted to avoid going to them (they carry Viper fyi...). I definitely wouldn't install it myself. So I guess I'm just open to suggestions. I'd prefer something relatively secure, I live and work in downtown, so it's not exactly the safest place. I'd prefer a two-way, I can't really justify getting a one-way very well. I tried looking at some of them but only realized how little I knew.

And in regards to the key fob - will the alarm disable my immobilizer? Or will I just have to have the Nissan key fob as well? (I have the S with convenience package)

Thanks you guys!!!
