car acting weird

ok today after i got out of school my car was pulling fine (93 240sx auto) and after drivign around for a little while my car began to feel like it was missing but i didnt have the sputter sound like i had last time. and now when i hammer on it it dont feel like its moving i just feels like its stuck in drive even when i shift down to first. and the weird thing is that when i do hammer on it and let of the temp gauge goes down then bounces back up to normal. i checked my oil and i does not smell like ne thing but i noticed my overflow tank was way past max. thanks

it might be over heating.shut the car off and let it cool down. when it's safe, remove the radiator cap and see if there is any coolant in there.sometimes if the coolant level is really low, the temp sensor won't read anything because it's not immersed in coolant anymore and it can't read hot air.
