:help lately my car has been a little laggy and then today on the way home it barely wants to start out in 1st and almost goes back down to 0 rpm, then when i shift to 2nd it backfires and hesistates, from 2nd to 3rd its does the same and same for all gears.also then sometimes, when accelerating id be flooring the gas and the car does nothing, i switch gears it worksfor awhile... then the gas has no effect on that gear.. and it just keeps doing that

any ideas?

I was gonna guess it might be the fuel pump but you said something about it backfiring. My 92 Pontiac Sunbird was starting where it wouldn't hardly go..even floored(sucked when pulling into traffic). My granddad and I put a new fuel pump on it and all was fine. I haven't really delt with a 240..just throwing my 2 cents in.

well i checked my fuel pressure already and it is fine, could it still be the fuel pump? also could it be my spark plug wires, it not firing corectly, leading to backfire.

I've seen this with everything but the backfire with mine when the MAF slips loose.

Check to make sure it on good. Also check wiring.

Is your ecu giving you a code? It might be able to find the problem for you.

I would suggest cleaning all wiring contacts Nissans are prone to corrosion. Clean every connector you can find and unplug. HINT the TPS is always dirty and clean the temp sensor connector and air flow meter connector. This will help.

Also try the "wiggle" test on the engine harness to see if there is change.

You should clean it with some kind of contact cleaner to get out the corrosion. Out of the wire.

well actually its kinda funny, cause yesterday i had no lag, but today after i dropped my bro off at school i noticed the same lag again, does this mean i need new o2 sensor, clean MAF, or a new temp?

Well you should NOT unplug sensors and then go start your motor. You just set off the check engine light. Who knows how many or what codes are there. Id suggest you have the ECU read to see whats codes are there. You may need to replace your ECU temp sensor. But I would clean all my sensors with diode electrical cleaner. Clear the ECU of all codes and see if the check engine light comes back on and that will be your problem.......

If the problem continues ask Dr John. I apprenticed under him for a wile when I worked for Nissan. He is a very good Nissan Tech! Or take it to some one you know who can diagnose the car for you.

the problem gets really bad when its cold outside, but it will still be noticible when its hot.
