So my parents bought me a 1993 240sx for my 16th b day. Yesterday that i went to take the drivers test they told me they had switched the rule. When i got my drivers permit i had to be 15 and 7 months and to get the license i had to have 5 months with the permit. I found out yesterday that the very same day i got my permit they had revised the law and had to have your permit for 6 months now instead of 5 and now you can get the permit at 15 with 6 months. So now that i go and throw the trash or go feed the dog i have to see my car knowing that i have to wait 1 more whole month to drive it legally.



I know it doesn't have nice wheels but at least it has 85k original miles.

So you're 16 now? Btw congrats on the purchase fellow Arizonian! I get my permit Friday, I'm glad I saw it changed to 6 months or I would have waited an extra month for nothing. That would have sucked.

Any plans for your sil40? And only 85K miles?!? Where'd you find that mint at?

My brother lives up in tempe and is going to ASU. He found it going to school at the gilbert campus. It cost my dad $3,400.

Damn, what a beautiful birthday present. Great start.

Personally, I don`t like the Sil40 hatch that much, but the Sil40 coupe is awesome. Still a pretty nice looking car and an amazing birthday present.

I guess in the meantime you`ll get to learn alot about the inside of your 240 and also take tons of pics of it (like I did when I got mine, although I could drive it). Shine her up and keep her clean and you`ll have a blast when the time comes that you can drive it. Don`t be too rough with it at first, though. It`s a RWD car so you`ll need to be aware that you could spin if you do the wrong thing, and you really need to be careful with the throttle and brakes in the rain.

I`ve never had any incidents with my car but a few times in the rain where I wasn`t really thinking I`ve given it too much throttle while accelerating near the end of a corner and made the tail slip out. Fortunately I`ve always been able to counter the slide (even with cars around me) and never lose control and hit anything, but in different circumstances who knows what could have happened. Point is: have fun, but take it easy, especially when you don`t know everything about your car. Maybe even take it to an open safe area and get a real feel of how it drives in certain conditions.

See if you can get your parents to pay for you to go out to NASA HPDE events, or a performance driving school of some sort. Maybe even volunteer to work at the events to get a feel for the atmosphere, and maybe some free track credit.

I started when I turned 16, and it really gives you an outlet to go fast and become accustomed to your car. That, and it's just a ton of fun.

i remember when i bought my first car (240, still the current car im driving) my mom was probably more pissed then than she has been in a very, very long time. She gave it all sorts of nice names such as: piece of ****, waste of money, garbage, ugly, etc. But thats ok, she has learned to deal with it. To her now its just " a waste of time "
