hey all my 92 Q45T is making me crazy. I press the brakes and my dash and radio lights go dim. And when i turn my headlights on, both go completely dim. Ive blown interior fuses and fuses under the hood with this problem. Ive replaced all the fuses, changed the stop lamp bulb, and checked all other bulbs which are functional. my dash message says ok(said stop lamp inoperable before i changed the bulb) but i cant stop the dmming. Eventually the fuses will blow again and ill have to change them again just so i can drive without getting a ticket. I just got my Q in october and this is driving me insane. Help PLEASE!!!

First have the alternator and battery load tested by a professional...........many times one of the 3 phases in alternator will have failed.

What were the $3,000 [minimum] worth of defects [things that needed to be fixed] that caused the 92Q being put up for sale in the first place?Post the 2 hour expert [paid by you] prebuy inspection results.

All for sale older cars have defects why they are called used cars.

Fuses never blow on a proper functioning circuit as the fuse value is twice the maximum current...................high resistance shorts in cables/connectors improper bulbs which draw too much current? Wrong size fuses................aftermarket add on junk.

Only use Sylvania LL [long life] bulbs or oem from dealer!

I had to look at my notes and in 16 years and 311k my 90Q has NEVER blown a fuse, however I replaced everyone at 10 years [2000] 200K just so they would be fresh for the next 20 years.

Fuse blowing is very strange: which fuse blow?

Years ago there were problems with the +12 wire feeding the visor mirror lights......it would get scraped and short as the womans miror was exercised to exhaustion. Another problem happened when heavy people sat behind driver [a main cable under the seat could short].

Most other problems were found to be from aftermarket attachments or modifications to circuits.

Also check the 2 brake light switches activated by brake pedal.

yea its been a pain. im blowing the illumination fuse and the fuse for the stop lamp on the interior fuse panel. i was reading some similar posts and i think im gonna replace all the bulbs in both tailights since it looks like that comes up a lot. i think my problem is in the brake switch u mentioned. where do i find it? how do i get to it?

hey i changed the bulbs in the tail lights to the sylvania and it looks like it might have fixed it. But my interior lights still dim a little when i turn my headlights on. It looks like its supposed to do that tho because the brake dimming i was getting seems to be gone. I think the ash tray light and the glove compartment light are linked to the headlight switch because they dont even come on until the headlights and side lights are switched on. Wish me luck, thanks for the help

It's not "supposed to do that" (although you may have a potential career as a service writer). As the expert says (I only pretend to be semi-competent on the internaweb), have the alternator tested. Also, make sure all your grounding points and battery terminals are corrosion-free and have a secure contact.
