when i do it on my rb25 i try to lower the trans down some to make more room to get at the top bolts, be careful not to lower it so much that your valvecovers are resting on the firewall tho... You may need to use alot of extentions to reach them if you can't get your hands up there. Also i raise the front of the motor some so its tilted when i'm putting the trans back on

I replaced an rb20 trans once while in the car. Never again will i do it that way. Coming out wasnt bad going back together was a *****. We had to turn the trans 90 degrees get it lined up and turn it back upright. Took many attempts. Good luck to you.

edit- If you have to loosen motor mounts and jack the motor.

Whenever my trans comes out... my motor comes out with it. You may think it's a lot of work at first until you look at how much time you've spent trying to get to those bolts with it in the car. Drop the crossmember (and support them) to both the trans and engine... use common sense and you should be fine. Raise the car on jackstands first to give yourself some room if you don't have a lift with the front slightly higher than the rear.

i called one of my buddys that hass done many swaps. he said you have two options.

1 drop the cross member and hope theres enough room to get a 14mm wrench on the top

2 he said to come her his engine hoist and start pulling sensors lol. i took option 1

wasnt really as bad as i thought though. i hope putting it back in isnt going to be that bad.

got a couple questions. i had a very bad vibration in the drive train at high speeds and at the lunch. after jacking up the car i noticed the rear drive shaft only had two bolts in it and they were loose. i cant ebelive they didnt sheer off. but could this of been my vibration?

also it was a stage 2 3 puck clutch. not sure on what brand. it said DK on it and i know that doesnt stand for drift king lolbut after i got the clutch out i looked at it and on the bottom of almost all the pads there was an unusual from of wear that ive never seen before.almost like chunks taken out.any ideas on why or what caused it?

this is a good way of keeping track of everything

DK is a Daiken / Exedy Clutch.A good Clutch.

By the looks of that clutch I would check the motor to make sure everything is coolLooks like someone beat the shyt outta it.

Make sure you re-surface the flywheel before you put that stuff back in.

it will be tough putting it back on by yourself, but i managed it, so you can too. since you lowered the crossmember, the transmission will come back on easier. when i did mine, i didn't drop the crossmember, and it was very tight at the top. tip: if you have trouble fitting the transmission back on, try to lift(prop) the front of the engine up a little bit so the back tilt down; it helps sliding the transmission back on.

yes your loose driveshaft bolts will cause a vibration. I would recommend you tighten them before your driveshaft goes threw your floor.

drop the transmission cross member and lower it enough until you can see the top bell housing bolts. Support the transmission with a jack or something. I used a very long extension, one that could extend all the way to the shifter hole. Went inside the car, attached a breaker with the handle sticking up thru the shifter hole and turned it a quarter turn to break it loose then used ratchet.

Spec said that the only difference between the stg 3 & 4 is a sprung or unsprung hub. They said its rated at the exact same amount of power, one just has a more streetable engaugement, and thats the one I went for.

Either would be great, just depends on what your application is.

that is pretty much the standard way for rwd transmission removal.
