Ignition key should open the trunk. You DO have an ignition key?Or is it only a "valet key", which WON'T open the trunk? If so, you need a regular ignition key.See your Infiniti dealer in that case, and bring money.snobrder wrote:I guess I lost the keys to the trunk and the switch on the drivers side isn't working! Trunk solenoid?snobrder wrote:I guess I lost the keys to the trunk and the switch on the drivers side isn't working! Ok I had someone pull the switch while I alternated push pulling but still no go. Haha I just wanna get in the damn trunk alreadyQ45tech wrote:Have someone push down and / or pullup on trunk while you try door switch.
Failure to do preventative mainteance on solenoid/latch/lock mechanicals.
Common for many to cheap out and just change ignition lock without doors, glovebox, trunk.
We once had a Q that need 4 keys to function 2 doors different from trunk or ignition.
The trunk solenoid may be positionally stressed from a bent catch why the push down, pull up works ocassionally!
This is the key I have. And nope it doesn't open the glove box either.heywier427 wrote:what does your key look like?
is it the large silver key with a groove going down the middle?
or does it have a black plastic head on the key.
if your ign. and trunk key is different good luck. have someone pick it.
but if your key does not have a groove going from the tip of the key to the base, thats your problem.
good luck!
brain fart...try the key in the glove box. if it works, your trunk lock is diff. if it doesnt work, it should be the valet key and wont open the trunk or glove box with out the groove it it.
Have you registered your car with Infiniti customer service? They may be able to locate it in a few days. Can't remember if it is on OEM invoice.snobrder wrote:Ok I have spoke to a few local dealers/locksmiths and they are all asking for a key code....where could I get this key code?
Yes it is registered with them.maxnix wrote:Have you registered your car with Infiniti customer service? They may be able to locate it in a few days. Can't remember if it is on OEM invoice.
That's assuming that they were kept track of through the transferring of ownership. Keith informed me that the Q's originally had 5 keys. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to purchase their vehicles new from the dealer.Q45tech wrote:Have the EXPERT LOCKSMITH use your valet key to trace the cylinder code onto the correct Master Blank [the blank with the slot on bothsides].Where are the other 3 keys that came new with car: 2 Main and 2 valet keys?
I think that the Bose can wait. Get your trunk done.snobrder wrote:Ok I am ready to gut out the bose system and I need access to the trunk now more then ever. Couldnt I just drill through the lock for now just to get it open?
It wasnt ignored, I stated in my OP that I already check the glove box switch.NCSUbrewer09 wrote:This was mentioned but ignored above but... there is a switch to turn your trunk opening mechanism on/off for valet purposes. You did open your glove compartment and make sure the switch inside is in the "on" position before going through all this right? I know someone (my mother) who has accidentally turned it off before and didn't realize it.
Wow... that's talented! Your trunk deck cover must be missing? I know all too well what it takes to get it open that way, since I once locked myself in the trunk...snobrder wrote:FINALLY!!!! I finally got in by making a steal rod with a hook on the end and sticking it through the storage compartment area. Now my next question is, now that I have access to the trunk how can i see if the trunk opener works?
I was having problems with the 90Q and noticed that the flapper was bent toward the front of the car and was pointing up slightly. Bent it back with a pair of needlenose pliers, lubed the mechanism and it works fine.Q451990 wrote:... if so, it's probably a bent "flapper" Heath
I took the shelf and seats and all out first ofcourse if thats what you mean by cover. But I have a fix thats good for a start, I took a long brake cable from a bicycle and hooked it up to the trunk release, now it hangs through one of the holes by the spare tire!Q451990 wrote:

I would absolutely get the new key cut before you start messing with it, unless you're so good at getting it open by your method that you don't mind doing it again. Sometimes the "flapper" in opener mechanizm (where the trunk latch enters the body of the car) will get bent, so it doesn't move far enough over to engage the latch release. Other times the solenoid will go bad. Does it "clunk" as loudly as it used to? If not it's probably the solenoid... if so, it's probably a bent "flapper"
Good luck!
