Hey guys,

My parents wont let me get a 240SX! :(

The reason is because I am going to Michigan Tech (Upper Peninsula) for 5 years (masters degree) and they get 300 inches of snow a year.

Instead my dad says he will help me buy a 4x4 Chevy Tahoe with a blown motor. Then we'll drop a badass crate motor in it. Then, once I'm out of college, they say I can get a 240 no problem.

I figure thats fair. I mean he will help me get the tahoe financially! :D Plus I'm looking at a 385HP crate motor right now.:D

Was wondering if anybody knows of a good GM Truck board?

Don't worry, I'll still be active here. I also get to keep the tahoe and drive the 240 in the summer after college. The truck will be my winter vehicle.

Later guys!

I have to agree with your parents. 4x4 is the best thing. As long as you know how to drive it in the snow.

trsilvias13, thats a good idea, but i doubt i could afford to buy both at once. Maybe a year or two into college I could get it and start building it. Then just store it for the winter.

Thanks for the support guys!

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Your father's offering to help you buy a vehicle, but not a 240sx? I say take advantage of his generosity. He sounds like a great dad. 240sx's do suck in the snow and the upper peninsula gets plenty of it. By the time you graduate, 240sx's will be even cheaper than they are now if you still want one. They're not collector cars. That truck will also carry far more friends/beer/luggage/skistuff/beer at one time for road trips/excursions than a 240sx. You'll appreciate the truck more after you've had it awhile. I had a big truck my senior year of college after my car got totalled by a street racer. (International Travelall- like a sturdy Chevy Suburban). A beast of a truck, but it made me very popular for road trips and hauling big things like kegs/furniture/tailgating. The bench seats and gobs of room in the rear was also great on dates. (but that's another story). Enjoy the truck.

A 240SX with actual <winter> tires (not all season) will out trac just about any AWD/4WD vehicle that runs only all seasons (as most of them do).

I think it is a better idea to buy a brown 2.5RS and drop a WRX motor into it. I don't know I think it look a lot better than Tahoe and has a lot of potential as well

Yeah hes really cool. As long as I play by his rules (which I do) then he can be very generous.

I'd rather take my time building the car and make it look professional than slapping in the SR20 and driving it in the snow.

I'm not gonna argue with my dad on the Tahoe. Its not gonna be a huge one though. I'm looking for a '95-'99 2 door. GMC Yukon GT is the same thing.

Can anybody direct me to a good message board for that?

I agree, unless you have real snow tires (which I don't), 240s suck in the snow. Except for doing doughnuts! I can spin mine on a dime! It's a blast, but it sucks not being able to do any real driving. There's been snow on the ground here most of the time since I bought my car. I would've bought snow tires, but we don't usually get this much snow.

A Tahoe will be good to have to haul all of your stuff to and from college in to.

Keep in mind that where he is going, they get snowfalls that will come up and over the hoodline of a 240. Won't matter what tires he's got, he'll be buried.

His dad also works for a GM dealer, which means he gets a phatty hookup on parts and he is a tech, so he does his own labor. Makes perfect sense.

One of my best friends had a '95 Yukon GT and it kicked arse in the snow. One of those a 385hp SBC is gonna own hardcore. Put it on 3" susp. lift and some 35's...oh yeah, the Michigan chicks are gonna be on your jock brutha!

Hey guys,

thanks for the support!

Yeah my dad works for a olds/cadillac/hummer dealer so i get pretty decent discounts. and free labor :)

was talking to w/my dad and he thinks problems might arise when trying to put 385hp/385tq through the stock drivetrain. plus that crate motor is $4k!!!

I most likely will get a built GM Perf Parts short block, do some head work on the stock heads and such, and probably make around 320hp/350tq which is still plenty in that truck. With some suspension work, I wonder how much it would take to beat a camaro?

Anyway, as you can see, I need a truck board and cant find one.

Who knows, maybe in three or four years, the price of swapping will go down because it will be more popular? Granted some of the original "cool" factor will be gone, but my 240 will still own.

I'm going for a Masters degree in automotive engineering, so I think its a law that all my vehicles need to be fast! :pface

I'm going to enjoy that Tahoe just as much as he is. He and I will be roommates up at MTU and I'll be driving a '91 240SX fastback. Winter tires are a definite for me. I'm thinking about bringing the car home for the winter, storing it in my neighbors garage until spring. Maybe. But that Tahoe will be an arse kicker whence we are done with it. I'm going for a 5yr masters in mech engineering as well, but I am torn between auto perf. like my pal SR20DET240 and marine engineering. Either way we shall both have fast cars...
