just wondering what you guys think of this stereo. saw it today in the new Cargo Magazine pg. 64

i really like the retro look, and the tube amp!!! just can't figure out if it would go with the interior of the Q. thinking the analog meters of the stereo might compliment the analog clock. also thinking, it might look like a "carnival" going on inside the dash!!! if not, it will DEFINITLY go with my dream 69 caddy deville convertible!!!!!:ylsuper LOLjeff

Tube amp in a car? I dunno about that ... it sure seems like a pretty physically difficult environment to me (vibration, motion, heat, etc.)

Love the look. Reminds me of my old Phase Linear gear I used to have in my living room.

This is the coolest car stereo that I've ever seen. It looks like an old school home stereo. I done think that it would match in hardly any car's dashboard that I can think of. Maybe if it came in black. The price is heafty also. Good find Jeff!

"Vacuum tube"? Surely they don't mean one tube?

The double-DIN page is interesting, with the Alpine MDA-W988J MP3/WMA/NetMD corresponding CD/MD receiver looking like the best of the black ones. I just never understand how the driver is meant to use all the tiny buttons while underway. Why stock systems usually work best when in motion.

I was talking with Nick (90Q45blue) and he said there are many kits that let you use the stock headunit with aftermarket deals..... The stocker looks perfect in there. Double DIN is nice, and that one you listed would be GOLDEN, but too pricey IMHO... Almost $1000 for a head unit you gotta be kidding me...

Me Likeee ! As I have the Beige leather, this would seem to blend seamlessly - could you plug in the Intrunk CD player ?Can you dim the lights w/the panel dimmer ? Time for the FSM diagrams and a bunch of tracin 'n splicin ?

Could NOT see this Headunit going into a black interior - but since my BOSE puppy is still 100%, I'll wait for amp ignition and then give this unit consideration @ that point -

since my interior is the black/grey combo, might really clash. it would be interesting to see this in a beige or lighter color interior, though. i think it would really look good under the analog clock!!!!!

the price is WAY up there, though. if i had a ton of disposable income i might give it a shot, but the practical side of me says,,,,you're paying for a tube amp head unit that you will only bypass when you hook up an external amp. so,,,,unless you spend BIG bucks on a tube amp, you just spent a grand on basically a cool looking faceplate!!!!! also, good luck with theft. no removable faceplate. would have to come up with some kind of cover to mask the face, or a top notch alarm and very dark tint!!! with all those negatives, still like the damn thing!!!!!maybe the best thing about it, not alot of tiny buttons, and one BIG volume KNOB!!!!!! jeff

Why don't you go with something like the Alpine 9835. Awesome unit with at least 512 colors to choose from to match any interior.Or how about the Clarion DXZ 945mp. Both can be had for around$425.00 or so. Clarion/Sirius, Alpine/XM. Sound quality wise they blow the Bose away.As far as double din vs. single, which will not be your only concern when changing the WHOLE system, a good installer can do miracles with cosmetics, so the car looks stock and stylish.
