Ok, I have a S13 coupe with 16x8 +10 rota grids. Right now im running 225/50/16 tires front and rear, they have a lil too much sidewall than i like, and bubble out a little bit. not my taste. I would like a 215/45/16, but i cant find very many tires in that size. The ones I do find are ultra high performance tires that wont last long. I need somethin that will last be a decent amount of miles. Anyways, I have been considering 215/40/16 but am worried they may look like rubber bands, but I have lots of options in that size. Please give me your thoughts and opinions. Here are a couple pics of the 225/50/16's that I am currently running. Thanks alot!-Dave-

try a different 225/50?

your tires look VERY beefy for a 225 on an 8. it looks more like a 245/50.

The wheels are 16x8 correct?

A 225/50 = 225mm or 8.85in wide and a 112.26mm or 4.42in sidewall height

Since your tires balloon out too much you are going to want to reduce the width and sidewall height of the tire. Try a 205/50 which will give you...

an 8.07in width and a 4.03in sidewall

If you happen to like the height of your sidewall currently then go with a 205/55 which will give you a sidewall of 4.43in which is only .01in more than you currently have so that rubber band worry is not a problem.

I also agree that that is one beefy a$$ tire. A 225/50 should have a mild stretch to it. My 615's look nothing like the photo also on a 16x8.That being said, a 205 or even a 215 50 would suit you better. Anything in a 40 series will in fact look like a rubber band. I beleive the Yokohama ES 100 is available in a 225/ 45. Personally though that is as small as I would go.

Oh, by the way, look into my eyes. You are getting sleepy. Very sleepy. now give me your coupe dammit.

thanks for your guys comments. I have been kinda leaning torwards the 225/45/16. I wouldnt mind a 205/50 but i think we pulled the fenders a lil bit too much for those to look very flush on it. I havnt looked for any 215/50's i think ill do that now. Thanks alot!-Dave-

What's funny is how they jump from a 195 to a 205, I guess 200 gets no luv, at least I haven't seen a tire in 200 width.

Those tires do look wider than a 225/50/16 on an 8 in rim, but different tires have different tread widths although the section width is the same. Try a 205/55/16 like someone suggested. The side wall height is almost identical, but the slight stretch will help side wall height decrease a little. Another good option would be the 215/50/16.

The aspect ration is only a percentage of the section width. A 50 series tire can be taller than a 55 series tire. It all depends on the width of the tire.

ex: (245 mm)*(0.50) = 122.50 mm (205 mm)*(0.55) = 112.75 mm

(205 mm)*(0.55) = 112.75 mm (225 mm)*(0.50) = 112.50 mm***.25 mm diffence in side wall height is almost unmeasurable***

You ideally want to keep the over all diameter close to stock for your speedometer and abs if you have it. If you want to get technical you could calculate the oe s13 radius (tire and wheel) and use that to determine the size tire that will bring you closest to oe on a 16 in wheel.

for ddgsxr505:The smallest car section width I can think of is 145 and the width increases in increments of 10 from there. Thats why you never see a 200, 210, 220, etc.

With trying to stretch a 195/45/16 I would really be concerned about load index. It is 84 apposed to 88 of oe. Even maxing out the tire may not even have the same load carrying capacity of the oe tire set at 29 psi. Their will be very little margin to tweak tire pressure if any.

It has nothing to do with comfort or carrying things. It would be a safety issue for daily driving. Your tires still have to be able to support the static weight of your vehicle along with the cornering and breaking loads. I am not even touching on performance concerns. If the tire's load index is to low then no amount of over inflation will compensate for that.

I am not trying rain on your parade over your stretching fetish. It is a serious thing though. Looking cool is not worth risking your life for... or is it?

In no way am I saying anything bad about stretching tires.

Have I questioned you knowledge or belittled you? I know nothing about you. I would appreciate the same level of respect and consideration from your end.

I think that looks rediculous. Not in a good way. You are very unique in your taste.

I have 205 50 on mine, if I remember correctly. I think that's probably the best size tire for these rims. Just a bit of a stretch and it won't give you the rubber band look.

unless he's wants a stretched setup, i still say switch to a different 225/50/16 tire. i've never seen that much bulge on that wheel/tire combo. those tires he has now are just freakish.

here's 225/50 on 16x8 from my old setup i had on my eclipse....nice and square.
