Okay, I've almost got the money to do a serious engine upgrade and need some help weighing out the pros and cons of different options. I'm deciding between turboing my current KA, or swapping for an rb20 or rb25. All would cost about the same for me to do. I do love the sound of the straight 6's but parts for my KA would be easier to find if anything went wrong. What other arguments do you guy's have between these options to help me make up my mind. Personal experiences, anyone??? The company that would be doing the rb swaps will be Modern Speed Labs (www.indymsl.com) if I choose the rb, and I'd be doing my own if I choose the KA-T.

Oh, one other thing. I'd be going for about 300hp which is a piece of cake on any of the three. Also, I'm not concerned about the weight differences... It'd be used just for fun on country roads and I really don't trust myself in the corners to do anything like that.

That is something you should prolly decide for yourself. As far as parts for the rb25 go, they are getting more and more popular so the parts will prolly become more readily available. (except for the starter i hear!) Im doing the rb swap myself and it is not that hard, it would be going a lot faster if i had stockpiled all of the parts before i started.

Flip a coin. Anything you decide, you cant go wrong. Just do it 100%.

Oh yeah, have fun and good luck.

For similar quality parts, there is no way they would all cost about the same. After adding everything up, I found that:

RB20 < KA-T < RB25

Which is why I have an RB20. IMHO the RB25 is the best if you can afford it.

Turbo the KA. It's really not worth swapping if you're only going for 300.

Depending on the condition of your KA (do a compression test), buliding a turbo kit for the KA can be done pretty damn cheaply and 300 is a freakin cinch for the KA stock block. Just make sure you're tuned correctly and you'll be set.

Wulfgang, the parts would be about the same. I'm not talking down to the dollar, but close enough to the point that price wont sway my choice. To everybody, the only reason I said I was going for 300hp was because I felt that was a pretty practical number, as far as getting power to the ground, etc... Besides, how much power would I really need? Where's the point when you cant tell the difference between really fast and really really fast? Right now I'll be choosing the KA-T because its probably something I can do myself and parts, but I'd easily choose an RB if it made more sense.

I agree with wawaz and wulfgang parts for rbs are becoming more available...if you just want 300 turbo the ka a little less hassel... but think about it do you really just wnat 300 and are you really gonna stop there... do your homework and find out which would work better for you just in case you want a little more and then decide. hope it helps. what ever it is hope to see pics and good luck..

How much did everything cost for so far? I am planning an rb25 swap as well. I was estimating along the lines of $5000 for all the parts. How close am I?

I dont really know exactly how much it would cost to do the swap yourself. I was planning on having MSL do mine. They're out of Indy and do rb25 swaps for $4200.

Are you talking about the RB25DE or RB25DET?

go with the rb.... 300whl is a walk in the park for it and you will only be happy with 300whl until someone with 350whl knocks your d!ck in the dirt, then you go up to 400whl... it gets out of control and only a wife can slow down the spending when she finds out how much you realy did spend on that "fu..ing car"

The swap I'd be getting done from MSL would be the RB25det for 4200. Either that one or I'm looking into getting an RB20det swap with some upgrade for 4000. It just depends on what the both of them come with. So how much power is too much power for the 240?

Oh, and no one around here would be able to touch me with only 300hp. My town's nothing but a bunch of GM freaks who think their lumina and grand prix are the fastest cars ever. BTW, everyone elses dream car is either a mustang or a camero. Some people have those, but they're all either V6 or an automatic.

Nothing's wrong with autos, I just prefer manuals, and dont understand why ANYONE would choose to buy an auto over a stick, especially in a sports car.

drag racing.

Perfect example, a guy I had working for me had a Supra with an auto and 4500RPM stall converter. 10second all day long.

Sticks just seem to be more fun, that's all. Back on subject, anyone else got any arguments over which would be better?

The KA would be easier to source parts and blocks for, however I'd prefer the RB simply because it came out of nissan's flagship car. And the sound of a turbo RB in a 240sx... It's a sound from the heavens!

I'm kinda debating 25 or 26 for my S14.
