This was the "excuse" I was given by my Nissan dealer as to why they cannot replace my bumper after a minor accident I was involved in. I think this is a load of $%^ and completely ridiculous.

I've been without my brand new car almost 3 full weeks now and I have never heard of anything like this. How can you not be able to get a part for a brand new car?! They ARE still making them, just go get one from the assembly line!

I & The Dealer have the following options:

1. Twist some arms and get a bumper2. Take off one of the bumpers from another Versa in stock3. Take back my Versa and give me a new one4. Give me all my money back and I'll go get another car on my own

Your thoughts and other options?

someone backed into mine a couple months ago and I had a bumper in 2 weeks. But I didn't leave it at the dealership, I just drove it around with the dent in it.

I needed to have my drivers door replaced. I brought it to a collision specialist. He ordered a new drivers door and it came in cracked - so he ordered another one. Had the car back within 2 weeks. I think your dealer is being shady.

I'd take the money and get a versa from a new dealer if that's an option.

This is all contingent on that I'm understanding this correctly:

Number 1 may get you somewhere, but 2-4 ain't happenin. The dealer has already fulfilled their requirements to you once they sold the car to you. They'll have no obligation to give you a new car, sacrifice a new car, or pay any money to you. They are still making the bumpers and installing them on new cars, but there's division within the company. Certain X amount of parts are made for new cars while others are made purely for parts departments. Backorder doesn't necessarily mean there's none out there, it just means that there are a lot more orders that need to be fulfilled before you got in line.

Your options now are to wait or get your car back and work with a different collision center who may be able to get the parts faster.

Ouch...a little tough love or is this forum moderated by Nissan Dealer Salesmen and PR Rep's?

In any case, I got my Versa back and as I originally posted my bumper looks fine as is. Their is a few scratches but no dents so I decided to just live with it until the new part gets in.

One final thought...Since I am sooooo inconvenienced by having to wait so long for a part maybe I should demand the waiver (at least partial) of my $500 copay and make the collision center eat it?

After Hurricane Charley a few years back, my car's paint job was trashed beyond recognition, no major body damage, just scratched to hell paint. The body shop agreed to charge me the full amount, but only take the amount -500 so I didn't have to pay the deductible... I got some really shotty workmanship.

LOL...Just a little bit of "tell it how it is". Sorry if I offended you. If your car was damaged enough, say you can't drive it around safely, then you could ask the dealer for a loaner car until they could get the parts in. To be honest, you're not really that inconvenienced. Your car is still drivable and it sounds like you still can get around town safely. It sounds mostly cosmetic. Now if your car was not drivable or you car could be considered a road hazard (things falling off), then you would be in a totally different ballfield. As far as your deductible....I'm trying to tiptoe here....you're going to be responsible for it. It's an agreement between the insurance company and you that if your car is damaged and you would like to have the insurance company pay, then you agree to pay X amount before the repairs are done. There's no deadlines tied to your deductible either. So if your car was out of commission for 2 months, I'd hate to say it but the insurance company nor the body shop have to refund anything to you. The body shop may give you some money back if they can't complete the repairs in a reasonable amount of time. But in your situation, their hands are tied by Nissan's parts department. What I'm trying to get at is that it could definitely be a lot worse.

All that your dealer is trying to do is this:

I was rear ended by a sorostitute at the University of Georgia, and I went to the dealer to check cost to get a new one.

They gave me this amount: $530.68 for EVERYTHING, including paint, and could get a new one in 2-3 days.

What that means, is that the dealer's part department had a body shop to it, and so they didn't order a bumper the same way that the regular parts department would, but instead can get a price break on shipping if it is dealer repair work.

Otherwise, the dealer has to pay a certain amount to ship the bumper (not in stock ever), and then another to get the rights to sell the parts for certain vehicle. That's how nissan makes money...

Regular body shops don't order from the same system, so they have to pay a fee EVERY time they order, and that is incorporated into the given price. Plus, a dealer will overcharge you because they have the brand name attached...

If a dealer has not sold a decent amount of versas or they don't have an on-site body shop, they won't be able to get the "high volume" discount and will also suffer a waiting list, as stated above.

Take the car to a dealer who has a body shop, it will be cheaper and quicker than a standard parts and service department.

I think you need to reevaluate how Nissan sends/prices it's parts to the parts divisions for individual dealerships. The parts department receives a parts list with dealer prices and retail prices

There's no discount for ordering lots of things at once at the dealership and everything is shipped via FedEx.

Now that I got my car back, the bumper looks almost new. Their is like 2 or 3 scratches only and if my insurance wasn't covering I'd might even tell them to forget about it.

In all honesty I was of the opinion that it wasn't anyone's fault but after being told by a bunch of people I should be mad I started second guessing my stance.

At this point I'm just happy to have my Versa back and out of that boring Corolla the rental place had me in. Maybe I'll try to get some money off the $500 deductible for my troubles directly from the shop but I won't make a big stink over it.

As far as the dealership goes; I got it from Fred Beans. If you lived anywhere near Doylestown that would be enough but since this is a national board I will simply say FB owns the Doylestown Car Market and sells almost every make/model of car available. If anyone would get a volume discount he would...
