Ok so i just bought the car and the old owner used to have z32 brakes on the front. The car was stolen and they took the brakes. He bought stock calipers at autozone and stock rotors at napa. I bought the car and was aware of this. I was putting a new clutch on the car this weekend and i noticed the rotors were only going half way up the brake pads. So in other words the calipers are mounted to high or the rotor isn't big enough. So i took off the rotors and calipers and went to the dealership and they didn't know their asses from their faces. So next i went autozone to make sure the guy bought the right calipers. Sure enough they were the right ones. So next i went to napa to verify the rotors and according to them they were the right rotors. I then went to shucks to ask if they had a set of calipers and rotors i could compare mine to, to see if they different from mine. But they didn't have any in stock. Has anyone had any problems like this before or know wtf is going on? My next plan of attack is to just have Nissan order me both calipers and rotors so i can compare to something i am sure is OEM. If you guys have any other ideas please let me know.

Do you have pictures of how it stands right now? They'd be helpful.

It would be a cold day in hell before I bought stock rotors and calipers from Nissan, go to autozone, tell them you need rotors and calipers for a 97 240sx, and theyll get you what you need, most likely alot cheaper also.

Here is an actual picture of the problem. As you can see the rotor only goes half way up into the caliper.

Here is an image i pulled off google so you can see how its wearing on the brake pad. The red is where the rotor contacts the pad. The rest of the pad hasn't been touched by the rotor.

The Calipers are from Autozone. The rotors are from Napa. As stated in the OP.

I believe the ABS calipers are a little bigger. Is it possible they are S13 calipers or something. I would start measuring rotor diameter and start searching on the forums and auto part store's websites.

Just a thought.....but you said he HAD z32 brakes on it... maybe he had z32 rotors redrilled for the 4 bolt pattern? I know that they are bigger than the stock rotors.

Is it 4-lug or 5 lug?

I had napa order me new 5 lug rotors. Just to see if they differ from what i have on the car right now. If i cant figure it out ill just buy z32 brakes again.
