canister?

okay, this may seem like a dumb question, but the fuel filter on my 78' 280Z is back by the fuel pump. but in the engine bay, the fuel line comes up and just before if gets to the engine it runs through another canister ~4" in diamerter that's bolted to the right fender wall. What is this canister? it's just back from the charcoal canister.

I can get a picture tonight if you don't know what I'm talking about.

The one in the front is the fuel filter. It is there to protect the fuel injectors. The one in the rear (if it is still there) is to protect the pump.

Often the rear filter is bypassed.
