seems my 89' s13 has acquired quite a bit of rust...i just found out awhile back and am wondering what I should do...most of it is just surface rust but toward the bumper of the car there is a whole the size of a pear....

ah the dreaded path of owning a 240sx...

well, you can do like myself and MANY others and just ditch the car because financially its going to be a loss and more times than not the rust will return. it really depends on your car tho, my entire underneath was destroyed and in the bad sections so i really had no choice, and its cheaper to buy another shell/240 than to repair one. post some pics so we can tell you for sure.

more pics of underneath, esp frame rails.

the only real bad part of that area is one of the gas tank straps bolts into that soft spot next to that rot hole in the center. hard to say the entire condition of your car w/o more pics but i got a few hours to kill tonight i could give you advice lol. been there myself. if it is just that, its fixable and you have nothing to worry about.

lol those pics dont help. take some of underneath the car at the frame rails and the floors and s*** like that. my first 240 looked great from those angles, but was swiss cheese underneath.

Gosh man why cut up a clean shell just to fix your spare tire well. I mean come on there aren't even any tricky bends in the metal you're trying to replace. Just replace it with some metal of the same gage. This area doesn't affect the frame as much because it's just the tire well.

im pretty sure if he can "take what he needs" from the shell its prob rusted to s*** anyway or been in a major accident, i have one of those "shells" sitting in my driveway still lol. i wouldnt be surprised if the other shell he is getting parts/metal from has the same problem, if in fact its being parted out due to rust. this area only affects the one gas tank strap so the part cut will need to have this too, or you will have to find another location for your tank strap... ive been through both situations.
