I found a nice American 2008 convertable 350z vehicle locally.

I spoke to an acquittance at Nissan . I was informed that the car has to be registered for 6+ months in US, in order to not be considered a 'new import' and be serviced, while under warranty, by Canadian dealers.

Can any Canadian confirm / rectify this information ?

The information you have is correct. All of the different auto makers have different policies. Even Nissan and Infiniti has different policies...http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?DocID=253Hope that helps.

If you find a good dealership they will warranty a brand new car from the US in Canada!

I'm pretty sure the 6 month rule applies to registration anywhere. If you import a new US market car you will be without warranty for the first 6 months. They only say it must be registered in the US for 6 months to help protect the Canadian dealers and scare off cross border shoppers

Thank you, once again, for the assistance

Nissan Canada informed me cars must first be registered in the U.S. If the car is sold within six months of the original purchase, NISSAN will not cover the warranty.

This particular 350Convertible I wanted to buy, after checking the VIN, proved it has been sold after 2 months and brought here, in Calgary.

That dealership may be nice enough to fudge some papers for you for your services, but Nissan Canada will NOT honour the warranty.

The Nissan dealership I bought my vehicle from offered to import pretty much any vehicle I wanted, but they could not import new Nissans. It wasn't because they wanted me to buy their Nissans, it was because Nissan wont honour the warranty. They could have made more money off of me by importing an Altima coupe for me but they just wont do it.

Joe is right about companies using scare tactics. If you had called Toyota or Lexus, they would probably have said that they wont honour the warranty just to get you to stick to Canadian sales. Canadians buying American vehicles threw off sales statistics and inventory counts for both countries. Nissan is different though. They have a policy in place that detered people from buying brand new Nissans and taking them up to Canada.

If I were you DAAN., I would stay away from American vehicles in Canada. Jonker Nissan here in Vancouver brought up a couple month old G37 with a clean title from an Infiniti dealership in the states to find out that it had been in a major accident and didn't even drive straight. Kind of scary that the information got covered up that easily.

Haha that is the funny thing. I emailed the manager of the dealsership and he sent in my VIN number and checked on them. It said that they would be able to get my warranty through them. So I am not saying by any means that this should happen with everyone and I will not say which dealership it is because I have no clue of the legal implications of it. All I know is my car is from the US and has been warrantied in Canada since I have had it. The car was brand new with 8 miles on it when I picked it up.

Considering that is highly illegal... Very unlikely. That's like saying every ones altima coupe could have the km's rolled back. I don't know about you guys but the dealership I delt with was very good about selling to Canadians. I also know of another friend who got his car in the states too from a different dealership and has warranty in Canada. You just have to be really cautious because I am fairly sure at any time they could just say "NO, we will not warranty that..." Guess it all depends on the Canadian dealership you go too.

... hence my = ). Most of us can only call Nissan Canada with VIN and they say Yes we do warranty car / no we don't - I understand dealerships charge Nissan Canada for warranty work, so if N C says no, it is a no.
