Anyone watching the results of the elections in Canada on the CBC?

It appears that the Conservatives are taking more seats than expected and are projected to for a government. The Liberals are down almost 9 percentage points, with the Conservatives, Greens and NPD up in the percentage points.

We don't get the CBC, unfortunately. My wife just went home this weekend and barely mentioned it. I obviously can't speak for any Canadians, but my in-laws seemed to be indifferent about the whole thing.

I really only followed the previous election and a few months after Harper was in office. Seemed to be making some good decisions initially.

Overall, I think Canada could benefit from another prime minister from the Conservatives, especially with increased seats in the parliament.

I did notice that the CBC coverage was also on C-Span.

The Conservatives needed 155 to have a majority government, so with 143 seats they still have a minority government. But it appears that the ABC (Anything But Conservatvies) campaign didn't triumph. The Bloc Québécois did a better job in preventing a Conservative Majority Government, by not hemorrhaging seats like the Liberals did this go round.

If the Liberals had elected a leader who could actually speak English, they would have fared better. I couldn't understand half of what Dion said (yet I could understand Chretien-and voted for him). A conservative minority government is still in my view, better than a conservative majority. Should the Canadian economy falter, decisions made in Ottawa will be more balanced.

Maple syrup production must not be affected! The syrup must flow..........

I hope Canadian politics is a little more civil than "down under"

Negative ads/campaigns are not known to work in Canada. Just ask the Conservatives. In 1993, they tried it (same tone as in Bush versus Dukakis in '88) and where crushed to just two seats and no official party status.

The Conservatives did much better going into the Liberal districts and asking voters, 'what have the Liberals done for you lately?'

I wish we could focus on real issues more in America.
