Canada 2011 EX35 option packages changes and other question?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi all

I am a newbie here from Ottawa. I am looking at my first EX35. In fact, the dealer loaned me a 2010 for 24 hours to test drive. Love it. However to get the Navi, here in Canada, I need to add the Premium and Journey packages, which increases the price by 8k. A lot of $ for me.

I heard that the US spec 2011 might have different packaging. We are October 10. I would assume that the 2011 should be coming out any days now.

My newbie questions are:
1) Do we know when the 2011 will be out in Canada?
2) What packages will we have in Canada? The same as 2010 or can we have the navi without all the other package?
3) Price wise, are we expecting a urge price increase for the 2011? After all the CDN dollar is almost at par with the US $
4) Is the 7=speed auto inthe new 2011 that much better then the current 5speed? I mean, the 2010 is smooth as is.. what would the 7-speed offer more than the 5 speed in everyday driving?
5) Currently they are asking 49k for the EX35 with Journey+Premium+navi. Exactly the price on the website; I did not start negotiating yet. What would be a fair counter-offer for a new 2010 (I am in Canada)?

The dealer is applying pressure - mentioning increases and lack of availability of 2010 and the end of any special deals from Infiniti, but I am thinking they are referring too financing rates, etc...

Advice?

Thanks again

Welcome to the Site...

Boy, you're asking some tough questions, that only maybe a Press Release or Sales might have answers for.

Then, there is this Thread >>> 2011-infiniti-ex35-changes-t500623.html :dblthumb:

I can answer a couple of these.

4. I think the 7 speed will just save on gas a bit. Perhaps q few quicker shifts to get it up to speed. But I think the main thinking here was to make the gas consumption a little better.
5. I think you should be able to get a smoking deal on a 2010 right now. Paying cash you get an immediate $4500 off... so I think $7500 of the msrp is not unreasonable. Stock might be getting slim at this point though so you might not get the exact colour you want. When the dealer starts talking about what colour you want, tell them you'll take something off the floor, this way there is incentive for them to sell you something they already have...

Good luck...

thanks for the replies Embe and Exceptional. The press release seems to be for the US market as I don't think we have the RWD version up here. I've just got an email from the sale agent telling me that his manager gave him the spec for the 2011 yesterday. So depending on what they are, i will make a decision. And i will post them here of course to help.

Embe: So financing via other means (bank) or even paying "cash" could mean I could get it with all the bells and whistles (except Tech) for about 42-43K? I am a neophyte on buying new cars: why would paying cash/financing via other means like a bank make the overall price cheaper? I thought the dealership would have MORE room to manoeuver and lower more easily the price if we finance the vehicle via Infiniti, as they (Infiniti) make money with the interest, no?

I googled "G37 gauges" (2010) and honestly, i don't see much different with 2010 EX gauge. What am I missing? It seems the gauge in between the dials is perhaps different (red vs. blue) (By the way. can the various dash gauge, radio dials and heat buttons colors be changed on the EX?)

Thanks all for your help and i hope to be able to return the favour soon!

I think Embe was talking about the promotional offers from Infiniti, where for example they'll give you $5000 off, OR 0% financing. But you can't combine the offers. I'm not sure what the current offers are, but there are various sites like Edmunds where you can find them (along with the invoice price) (not sure if that's only for the US though, not Canada).

Besides that, I don't think the dealership cares whether you finance through them or not; the dealer itself isn't getting extra money from the interest you pay.

I think 42-43+ taxes would be about the normal range right now.

Infiniti wants to sell cars not take on debt, which is why they give big cash incentives for non-financed deals.

Good luck with your shopping. You'll probably find some good deals now. The 2011's are just around the corner now, so ask the dealer what bonus you can have for taking a 2010 away from them today. Car salesmen love to here the words 'buy today'

oh, and last thing, wait until the 30th or so... At the end of the month dealers might be more willing to let cars go to make month end quotas...

Again... good luck.

It is my understanding that the 2011 EX35 is supposed to made available this month; however, in the locality where I live ( Alexandria VA) I see that there are a number of new 2010 EX models that have not moved in recent weeks. It seems to me that Infiniti would not begin selling 2011 models until the 2010 inventory is substantially reduced.

did i hear somewhere that the no-charge cargo cover is making a comeback in 2011?
can anyone confirm this?
ughhh...

oh... and here's what i did...
you can expect around an 8% markup on base price and 10% markup on packages.
calculate a percent that you think would be fair for the dealership.
then dock the infiniti $4500 incentive.

and i agree... you're going to get more leverage at the end of the month and on 2010s.

have fun with it (both the car... and the buying experience...)

I've just got an email from the sales rep about the 2010. I stated a new tread to be useful. Yes, the cargo cover is now back.

gkdyeung: Your suggestion of the markup of 8% and 10% on packages lead me to these numbers (for an 2010).
2010 Base: $41,250.00 (-8%)= $37,950.00
Journey package: $1,550 (-10%) = $1,395
Premium package:$4,150 (-10%) = $3,735
Navi: $2,950 (-10%) = $2,655
Total: $49,900 vs. $45,735.00, minus the Infiniti incentive of $4,500 = $41,235.00 -- This would be the dealer's true cost?

Is that the number or ball park number you started your negotiation with? What did you end up paying? Also, how can one find (or where) these incentives being offered? As I said, I am new at this. The sale guy is trying to avoid negiating the price of the car and give me a "bottom line number" until I tell him if I want to lease or buy. He tells me that they are different incentives with each option.

Thanks

i started and ended negotiations at 3% profit for the dealer. a number i was happy to afford the dealer.
(or at least what i calculated to be 3%... i did not have an official CCC or APA report... just estimated from US reports).
time was not on my side... so right there i had to be willing to yield.
in the end i got it at my asking price... so i was happy.
the dealership is the only one for miles around... and he had to bring the car in from QC... so he did not have to bend for me at all.
i am thrilled he did.

if you have time and want to negotiate hard, you could get the price down. moreso if you wait for the 2011s and you buy a 2010.
then again, some dealers just will NOT negotiate.
and as a previous poster stated... i don't know if there are many 2010s around.
(having said that, alta infiniti in TO had 28 last i checked... so you could make a road trip of it).
i know for a fact alta negotiates.

Hey CDNicecube,

I also live in Ottawa, and just leased a new 2010 EX35. I posted the deal I received locally (think I did very well). If you want more details, feel free to PM me and I'll fill you in.
