my Qs got 140,000 on the ticker, and im wondering if i can weene the motor onto synthetic oil. start with one quart of blend synthetic. then at the next change add two. untill its all blend, then add one qt full synthetic...ect...ect... does this sound like a waste of time or is it something to go for. i know just switching to synthetic is bad, so do you think this is a heathy compromise. i always here switching will loosen deposits. deposits of what? isnt that a good thing? thanks for the info.

Sure, but why not just do it? You can run some high detergent oils with short filter and lubricaton intervals first if you are worried. What does the valve train look like under the filler cap?

I envirolutioned my engines before converting them, but at lower mileage than yours.

the car was a calf. car analy maintained by an infiniti sales person. ive got hundreds of work orders. tho ive beaten on it, i too am a mechanic and have been obsessive in the care of the car. the oil is always clean and when the motor was apart i didnt notice any kind of anything it was amazing actually. so for anyone else who reads this, just for other opinions, is it ok to just switch it to a synthetic ? thanks manix.

just switch to a full synthetic, and keep first 2-3 changes short, like around 3,ooo miles in case there was a buildup of sludge/deposits that a high detergent oil could break loose, then go for 5,000 mile changes and enjoy a longer lasting, cleaner engine!

I still stick to 3,750 mile change intervals because the crankcase doesn't know or care what kind of oil your are running and gets contaminated by rich starts and blow by anyway.

Sounds like you have no problem converting at once. Do like the leavings the envirolution gets out of the pan, though. Always takes a 1/2 quart more oil afterwards.

soo true, which is why I believe in oil analysis to check how your oil is holding up to your particular engine and driving patterns.using Redline oil, analysis shows in my engine/driving conditions,5000 miles is conservative with less than o.5% fuel dilution,no water {moisture},low metal wear particles, low insoluables{blowby, etc}and TBN acceptable to ward off acids.........your results may differ
