THis is for my 91 KA24de 240sx. I was wanting to take off the upper intake manifold and either clean it up or get it to a polished finish to match my header. My question is, can I take just the upper Intake manifold off or does the lower one have to come off also? If both have to come off, how hard is it going to be to get both out?

You can probably remove "just the upper manifold", but it's a lot easier to just remove the entire thing as 1 unit, especially since you basically have to remove everything connected to the lower intake part anyway to get to everything.

there should be a process to take the intake manifold out either on here by searching or via downloading the fsm.

you can remove the upper by its self but its a pain to do it the first time. While your there i would check ur knock sensor and pcv valve and clean everything or just replace them for the hell of it.

just get both of them off. its not hard to take it out. remove the bolts thats connected to the i/m and head. then there is 2 lower bracket thats holding it from the block to the manifold. i believe 3 bolts.

also if you have abs, remove the outer studs from the head and its easier for it to come out

hope your hands are small because there is NO room to get at anything. I just took mine off and it was a pain, we started taking just the top off and found out that that was not the way to do it so we had to remove both.

Ok, well I'm waiting for my work week to be over with and I'm actually not going to pull it off of mine right now. I'm going to Pull-A-Part and going to grab one off there. I have decided to take it down to a polished finish I have heard it takes a lot longer then I'm thinking its going to take. Has anyone every taken it down to a polished finish and have an idea of how long its going to take?

I have the Nissan FSM and it has just an explosion view of outter componets and don't even show the bracket on it. And I have looked everywhere in the book and no process giving in the book. I have found a thread about removing the both upper and lower but I was just wanting to know if I could remove just the upper.

all you do is just remove all the bots holding the upper to the lower. remove fuel injectors/harness, egr plus solinoid in the back of the head if u need to. Remove the intake and all that and there should be a little bracket in the bottom that most ppl miss. then it should just come out easily but u have the pcv hose in the bottom to disconnect or else u''ll ruin it and scv's/butterfly's if u have them also have to be removed. oH and of curse remove the studs from the head and poof it comes out. For me its harder putting it back on then taking it out.

If you remove the studs from the head your job is a hell of a lot easier. You can remove just the runners but its a pita unless you take out the studs. The FSM actually says to remove the studs when removing the IM.
