I think most people go for 245/45 18, that would be a better size IMHO.

More important than size is load index especially on the front where it is easy to meet of exceed the 1521 pounds [95 load index] during braking.

Selecting a stronger tire [above 95 load index] will pay you back in increased longevity and durability.

225-50s would work pretty good... 26.8 OD vs 26.1 so thats close enough.. I dont think id go a whole lot wider than that

Careful half the 225/50/18 on tire rack are low rated [94] and not strong enough for a 90-96 Q45.

Different people have different opinions concerning safety and insurance liability when you redesign a vehicle with non oem sized tires/wheels.Please check with your attorney, your insurance, and review local court decisions.

In an 18" tire with a 50 profile for a G50, i woiuld not go any narrower than 235.

Personally, I think you would find 245/45-18 a better combination with at least an 8" wide wheel or 255/40-18 with at least an 8.5" wheel.

Size alone is insufficient to decide. Load carrying capacity, UTQG rating, and actual construction and quality control must determine if the tire is sufficiently strong to serve its duty. Very few are on a G50. Read the tire sticky in Infiniti General.

225/40 are way too short and way too low a load rating. They are unsafe and should be replaced immediately.

Just to put it out there, 245/40/18 will also work. A 40 sidewall tire may be quite a bit cheaper than a 45 sidewall tire too. Just make sure it's the proper load rating.

A little short, and many do not meet the minimum OEM load requirement.

I would go with a 225/60/15 PilotExalto....nothing like getting over 50,000 miles of smooth riding, good handling performance for such a small investment. The big wheel look is so played out, yet the punishment to ride quality and increased risk of damage to wheels/tires/suspension lives on.

Don't think they will fit on an 18" wheel. While Michelins are fine, I really don't like short tires.

Brian, just consider the 225/60/15 {135MM section height} compared to the 215/65 /15 {139.75MM section height} as a 4.75MM LOWERING JOB!!Who needs Eibachs with these!!!! OH the STANCE

agreed 100%

The 245-45s if more expensive are worth the money over 245-40. Ive had both on my Q and the 245-45 are hands down better. They are the perfect size for the Q.

What is the major difference you experienced between the 245/40 and 245/45? The 245/40's are lighter, cheaper and have a nearly insignificant gearing advantage. But you are giving up .5" of tread width.

maxnix - there may be a 1% difference in the outer diameter of a 245/40 compared to 245/45, depending on width on the wheel and tire pressure - a negligible difference. My tires have a 97Y XL load rating of 1609 lbs.
