What's up everyone. I installed a K&N air intake in my 92 na. I can definitely notice a difference in performance, especially since i went from a stock filter clogged with nuts from a chip munk to a brand new clean performance filter. How high do i need to bring the rpm to really hear it in action. My cousin had a celica back in the day and he would just floor it and you could hear it.

the celica probably had a resonator, which is a box like thing after the intake that is suppose to quiet the intake noise. when you pop a k+n on, you usually take that off or just put a nice metal pipe in its place which is why it was louder.

i could be wrong here, but i believe the z does not have any sort of resonator.

So without a resonator I should be able to hear the intake right? He told me he used to redline in order to really hear it kick in. Does that mean literally get the rpms to the red or just hit the gear at max torque?

you can barely hear them really you can just hear a little more motor noise, and yes you will hear it at redline. after i installed mine there was a noticable difference in sound up at around 6500-7k rpms

How come intakes in our cars dont make a huge sound difference?

Ive heard intakes on civics and cobalts and they make a HUGE DIFFERENCE in sound. Like you can totally hear the intake.

But with ours, I can only hear a quiet air sucking sound.

If we remove the extra pipings, will we be able to hear more sound?

As Z31toZ32 said if your car didn't have a resonator to begin with you won't notice much of a sound difference it really depends on the car, i put a k&n typhoon on my fiancees tib and motor growls from 3k to redline. Her stock intake had two separate baffles in it to suppress noise.

Dude screw the intake noise. Get a catback and some headers.... one of the things the NA has going for it over the TT is that the NA sounds much better!

Seriously... go get you a twin turbo, put a full 3" exhaust on it and come back and tell me that an n/a sounds better than a twin turbo

.. I have a TT with testpipes and a stillen catback. I have also driven the crap out of an NA with headers and a catback, and the NA hands down sounds cooler and meaner. The turbo whine is cool, but doesn't sounds mean at all.

If youd want, we could post up some soundclips of an NA/TT dyno.. or do a poll with the stipulation that you have to had driven both to vote.

do bigger turbos count in the exhaust mod?? bc then people are just going to like the TT sound even more especially if we do sound clips with tt's that have screamer pipes i dont think the NA can touch a TT on sound i mean am i wrong?? i wouldnt think so

When i installed my Pop-Charger intake onto my 90 n/a...i couldnt hear it at all..I let my friend drive it..and from the outside in the front you can def. hear that throttle like noise. The intake is infront of a fan, and the engine itself. O and its also in the very front of the car at the bottom....plus our engines tend to be louder than some others...so there is no way in hell your able u hear it from the inside.

Yeah a cai is going to be louder to people outside the car then in it. cruise down the highway next to a cement divider and you will hear it loud and clear.
