Im looking on craigslist and this guy is selling some 2 in wheel spacers for cheap.

I have aftermarket rims (17x9) that already need spacers but my question is--

Can you have too wide of a stance for drifting?

This is going to be a track car and im just wondering if being too wide would make it more difficult or easier to drift

Thanks for the help!

Track width shouldn't (theoretically) affect much, but the bigger issue is the added stress on the wheel bearings (and other components) from spacers (totally not a good idea for track use - buy correct wheels).

even the ones called "Hubcentric"? Iv heard those are a lot better or are they alll just junk. I was looking at people from Formula D to get ideas and Dai Yoshiharas car had spacers in the front but not in the back....

Yes, even hubcentric spacers.

You're exponentially increasing the leverage on the bearings. It's one thing to use them for "hard parking" or even cruising around, but not motorsports... and a 2" spacer on a 9" wheel? You either have some lame FWD offsets -OR- you're trying to poke the wheels out and emulate a certain "look," neither of which will improve your drifting.

I'm pretty sure Yoshi's car is quite a bit more substantially-built than a run-of-the-mill S-chassis, and he can swap wheel bearings and spindles at every event if he wants to.

Hundreds of people will say "I've run big spacers for years and never had a problem," which is like saying, "I drink and drive and haven't ever crashed."

Proper-width wheels make a lot more sense.
