backfiring? either the little popping ones or like a whole fireball out the exhaust? and if so, what would the charges be?

if the backfiring exceeds the allowed noise level, i don't see why not.

agree. It's obviously not a felony, and the fine will vary depending on the local laws. But trust me, you neighbors are not going to as thrilled as you are with that sound. I don't think a backfire once in a while is much of an deal, but winding it up with the intent to make loud backfires repeatedly in a residential area and especially at night, could draw you a disturbing the peace citation.

so the only offense that would apply would just be the standard noise regulations? i was reading somthing about how if you vent your blowoff valve to the atmosphere, when it releases the air it is no longer there to burn, making you run very rich for like .1 seconds when you shift, which would somtimes cause a fireball. I was wondering if you could be pulled over solely because cars (usually) arent supposed to shoot fire :)

Other than the noise regulations, the only other issue you'll likely encounter is if your state has an annual emissions test. If your car belches and backfires, it's a sign you have a problem and you probably won't pass.

if your car is blowing fire balls then you most likely have no cat or legal muffler so that would be a problem

hahah.. i run no cat and 3" full exhaust. Shifts between 1-2 and 2-3, usually end up with a back fire. if i get on it on 1st and lay off for more than a sec. going into 2nd there is one big fire ball. i was racing a hopped up 95 firebird the other night and my friend was allong. he said he never seen suck a big *** fire ball come out of my muffler. hahha.. when we was done racing he said i need to check my exhaust cause he thought it was on fire. said there was sparks in there.. hahhaah. he don't have a clue.

If you have flames coming out of your exhaust then you will get pulled over regardless of the noise level. Cops like to pull over any souped up car anyways, the flames coming out of the exhuast are just icing on the cake (or donut) for them. chances are that you are running no cat if you are shooting fireballs out your exhuast and you will likely be given a fix-it ticket at the very least.

other than whats already been talked about...

you have to really whomp on my car to get a backfire (RARE).. so i'd probably get stopped for speeding or excessive acceleration first.

if it happenes once in a while.. I don't see why not but then again, the cops can pull you over and ask to inspect the car... so who knows maybe you would get a ticket for something else...
