I was wondering if it's possible to change out the stock shift knob on a cvt altima coupe to a different one.

Sure can... its gotta have something to hold down the button though, or to keep the button pressed all the time.

To take the knob off, pull down on the chrome jobbie thats at the bottom of the knob, it will come down.... Then theres a hairpin to remove and it slides right off.

There was a momo knob i was eyeballing last year that looked like a question mark but it was $100 and i wound up passing on it

ok, so i've been searching everywhere online for a new shift knob for my cvt that looks good. and came across a forum for another car site that said they used an adapter kit to be able to use manual knobs on their automatic cars... can this be done on our cars too?

this is what i found on them talking about it, but no link to the actual adapter...

PART 1 - "When you take off your stock shift knob, all you are left with is your shifter arm. Well what you can do is buy a manual shift knob, we will go with sparco because thats what I have on mine and it will work the same on your auto, and the sparco knobs come with an attachment that has 3 little screws on it

You place the attachment on top of your shift arm, screw in the 3 screws tight with an allen wrench, then on the top of the adaptor, there is a little threaded knob that sticks off, and you screw the actual shift knob onto the adaptor

wait i might be wrong, if there is the shift lock mechanism on your auto, you might have to disable it, or cut it off with a dremel, auto guys help me out here"

PART 2 - "if you cut the auto lock mechanism on the top of your shift lever, then you can get anyone you want, but just remember, if you do that, you can easily move the shifter into another gear without pressing the release button so i would NOT recommend this at all"

I also read that some MT shift knobs come with a spring and when it was time to shift on an automatic car, all they did was press down and shift. That the pressing down did the same action as the button on an automatic did.

There is a button that sucks up and is spring liars. If you were to get a manual shift knob and find a rubber gromett that fit tight, you could use that and just push down when you shift... Add the manual trans trim piece and shift boot for the ultimat deception...

Or you can just swap your rubber cvt shift knob for a leather one off a junk yard and call it a day
