hey guys, i have an RB20det, any help on this would be appreciated, i searched and found some valueable info on checking for MAF connections but not nessecarily what im looking for.

the other day, i was WOT (in a safe area), and my car made a quick and loud PPPHHSST (hissing noise, sounded like a vaccum hose blew off). car stopped accelerating, and i looked under the hood, and low an behold a vaccum hose did blow off. it was this little 3 inch vaccum hose that connects something at the intake manifold, right behind that intake arm that goes accross the valve covers.

i reconnected it, and the car would start and not go past 3Krpms and would die without throttle. the car is now in the shop and they have confirmed that it is air/fuel related. they unhooked the MAF and said it ran much better than with it connected.

could i have blown the diode on the MAF?? does this sound like anything else. with the MAF plugged in its running extra rich (black smoke).

thanks,

gamay

if the shop is worth a **** they should have put the MAF on a scope to read the output. but since they didnt, take the car back, and try a different MAF

its totally possible to damage it, but it may have been a coincidence that your pipe blew off at the same time.

So nothing else is different on the car than before when you wre running WOT minus the vacuum hose that blew off? No intercooler piping or other vacuum lines missing or bad?

Any ECU codes? Chances are if your MAF took a poo, it'd throw a code as well as running like anus.

yeah but even if it was an intercooling pipe issue, it would still run and free rev.

You can TRY a new MAF sensor, but be absolutely sure that none of you intercooler piping popped off at the same time.

No, it wouldn't. RB's have draw through MAF's. If it's a intercooler piping issue, it'd run like crap and rev even worse.
