Hi all,

I am having issues with my auto transmission (98 Maxima SE). Took it to a 3 different places here in town. They all told me that I need to rebuild the original transmission, and that I can't swap it out with another.

Although I haven't found another one to replace it this one, I do find it hard to believe that maxima trannies are not swappable.

Is this true?

The shops are all around the $4000 mark for a full rebuild.

I have owned the car for about three months.

Thanks

IIRC any transmission for a VQ30 maxima will fit 95-01 model years

and $4000 is the most ridiculous quote ever. I can get you a 3.5 swap with a 5-speed for less than that

FYI if you know what you need, tell the shop straight up what work you need done. If you let them be in control of the situation they will try to get you for an arm and a leg

Thanks for your information, Tigershark,

I am totally new to my maxima, and I still am researching about my car. I still don't know what I need, All i know is that it started slipping really badly on takeoff about a week after I bought the car. The oil was new and I added lucas transmission stuff to see if that helped. which it didn't. It doesn't do it when it is fully warmed up, but it upshifts really lately as well.

Thanks again,

Heeter
