Following on from my post on 11/17 about EZ Lube managing to put so much oil in my daughter's 1995 Q45 that the car could only judder down the road, she has just been told by her mechanic that her valve cover gasket needs urgent replacement because of oil leaking on to the exhaust ($710 for the job in L.A., including parts). Is it possible that there's a cause-and-effect here between the oil overfill and the blown gasket?

Either way, I think you need a new mechanic. $710 is just nuts.

I agree. $710 is way too high.

THat doesnt sound unreasonable, but I doubt that overiflling the oil that much would cause the valve cover to blow... Seriously doubt it.

$710 P/L for both VCs on a G50 Q doesnt sound terrible for LA. Its about 8-9 hours labor, and about $50 in parts.

I'd be certain that the gaskets are actually leaking!

Could just be the excess oil blew out and made a big mess, and the mechanic is calling it a valve cover job!

Get the engine cleaned off, drive for a few weeks- see how it does- MONITOR the oil levels.

My 2 cents

Are there any quick fixes to an oil leaking Q. I was wondering if a fill of that "stop oil leak" junk would work to fill a small, non-major leak such as he has, as do I. If so, which brands are worthy of touching the Q?

I've not heard of any product that will stop the leak and have no other detrimental impacts elsewhere in the engine.

If you just want to get through a few miles, go for it.

Fix it right and be done with it for another 100k.
