So im sure youve seen me posting from time to time about buildig my car, and ive got to the point were i just wanna be driving it so bad and would like to pay off some stuff.. When i tore into the engine is was for a blown turbo, found out my timing belt skipped 3 teeth and did some work on the valves.. Not to mention the rust damage in the cylinders.. So im about to get my engine back from the machine shop, basically brand new engine including wiseco pistons and eagle rods.. But what im thinking is for now keep the stock turbos and enjoy it for a summer, pay it off then this winter pull it back out and throw some big turbos on it with proper fueling and tuning knowing ill have a block that can handle it

My driver side turbo is fine, passenger was toast.. Theres a guy on ebay selling a driver side turbo for $275 in decent condition, i want to know if i can reclock it to fit on my passanger side? Cuz if so then i could have a driving car in like a week and half which would be awesome! Bump the boost with a good controller to like 13-14psi and I think thatll be a blast to drive for like 6-8 months till i pull it back out

I don't believe that is possible, but have not messed with the turbos beyond playing with it so not positive other than if so, would be a serious PITA.

They absolutely can, You just have to clock them correctly.

My bad...but would it not be as much trouble as a CHRA replacement, which would be the smarter path to travel even if a PITA?

Well from what ive learned and researched a new chra and everything else to rebuild it will be around $500 and then i have to find someone to balance it.. A very nice turbo just popped up for $150 im waiting to hear back if it an auto or manual car, if its a manual Then ill buy it.. Its only going to have to make it another year max before it gets upgraded.
Good to know they can be reclocked.. I was debating about taking my old one apart to see if it could but i decided not to so if i get a driver side turbo i can just use my old one as a base and get it to match it perfectly

On a side note if it is an auto how bad would it be to use it? I know id get away with if i swapped both to an auto, but one auto and one manual? How would that work.. I imagine itd work if i had a big fmic.. But itd be better to steer clear wouldnt it?

I would not think it wise....one side making more power and at different points can only lead to disaster. If you had a front mount no big deal since it would balance.

I don't really think it would hurt anything running one auto and one manual it may actually help with bringing on the power earlier since the auto has a smaller turbine housing it would spool faster, and Budget300zx, it would balance, that's why our cars have a balance tube to ensure that each turbo feeds all 6 cylinders. The direct airflow is more or less 1 turbo par bank but in reality they commingle the charge.
Replacing the CHRA does NOT require re-balancing as you would already get the CHRA fully assembled and balanced, all you would do is install the housings on it and BAM complete turbo.
The only time you need to re-balance is if you pull the cartridge apart which is what reputable turbo specialty shops do but the equipment required to balance a CHRA is VERY expensive and non specialty shops just don't have them.
As for the difficulty, re-clocking a turbo is 1/4 step from changing the CHRA essentially you are removing the housing off the CHRA turning it some # of degrees and then reinstalling it.
