Can't turn key.. ('95 240 SX.. non SE)

'95 240 SX.. non SE

Car started fine yesterday. Not exactly an "advanced" problem, but once I put the key in the ignition, the key just won't turn. Foot is on the clutch (in neutral), pressed on the button near the ignition (which did not go down) and could not turn the key.

If any additional info is required, let me know. Thanks for any help.

Is your steering wheel locked?? If so give it a hard pull in either direction while turning the key.

I initially tried that, but I only gave the wheel a slight pull. I was kind of afraid I might have damaged it if I put more strength into it. But if the steering wheel is locked, is that the reason why the little button near the ignition wouldn't push down either?

Got it to work. Just like you said, I had to move the steering wheel a couple of times while I turned the key. Is this normal? Thanks.

If you try and turn the wheel after you remove the key it will lock the wheel and if it binds it makes a b*tch to turn the key, like what happened to you.

IIRC, this is a safety feature so if the car is hotwired, steering is still disabled.

Makes towing a PITA when your old s14 won't get power.....to anything.
