so not that anyone here trusted what the media tells us, but admitting it is kinda wow...

Quote »On MSNBC’s Hardball last night, host Chris Matthews asked former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan if he saw “FOX television as a tool” to get the White House’s “message out” while he was in the Bush administration. “Certainly there were commentators and other, pundits at FOX News, that were useful to the White House,” replied McClellan, adding that they were given “talking points.”[/quote]http://thinkprogress.org/2008/...oints/

Good to know this is where my tax dollars are going...

I would do the same thing if I were in their shoes. Not that I trust the media nor am trying to back it... but its not like that doesn't make sense.

I'll put it this way (I know no religion but this is the easiest way for me to convey it)... say I need/want to put something out for believers or need to explain something... I would go through some "christian network/media" or similar to do it. It would be stupid of me to go through some "atheist network/media" or similar to do it since they don't have my same views are likely to somehow skew it.

The same deal applies here... why would a conservative White House go through a liberal media when there is conservative media out there who is likely to share their views?

Its simply common sense and you can't tell me that a liberal/democrat office would not do the same going through one of the other more liberal media outlets.

For anyone interested in politics, Chris Mathews on Hardball is one of the best shows on TV for finding out what is really going on. I have it on a season pass on my Tivo.Chris will grill members of both parties and will repeat his questions and demand answers. Democrat or Republician he grills them all.Fox noise is managed news that is unfair and unbalanced.

During the last Republician convention in NYC, there was a loud anti Bush demonstration and march down 7th Ave on the Sunday before the start of the convention. Since my daughter lived on 7th Ave at that time she called and I could hear the noise thru her cell phone. I immediately scanned all the news channels and the only news outlet ignoring the demonstration was Fox News.

I agree - I like Chris Matthews. He knows bullshlt when he hears it and rarely lets a guest get away with it. For such a long-time loyal Democratic operative, he's surprisingly fair.

And Keith Olberman that follows Chris just loves to catch O'Reilly in lies and BS. If you watch Olberman on Countdown you'll see the best parts of O'Reilly.

it really bothers me that this isn't surprising to us as a country. That is one policy I would supoprt from any candidate. The FCC needs to force these people to differentiate fact and opinion if they call themselves news.

But what bothers me most about this type of thing (and mtcookson does obviously have a point) is that my tax dollars are paying for this.

The vast majority of today's media is all about earning a profit. So they choose an audience and write/broadcast what sells. Some of the media targets the conservatives to sell to, and some of the media targets the liberals to sell to, and some of the media targets the middle ground.

There are very few members of the corporate media today that are unbiased in the way they present the news. They don't do it because they personally feel the need to sway people... they do it because it's what the stockholders and board of directors require them to do to stay in business.

Welcome to the new world.

Olberman is just a clown - not a newsman.

Guys, why would you expect anything else?

News shows are funded by advertising dollars.

If I'm an advertiser and I'm a bleeding-heart lib, and you report that my candidate said something stupid, I'm pulling my millions and you're gonna feel it. So, the story gets recast as something innocuous, or doesn't get reported at all.

So simple, yet so confusing for the gen pop.
