Having never bought a new car before, I'm not sure if this is normal, so I'm asking you guys. It's been a month since I put in my order for an SL and I haven't heard anything from the dealer, so I emailed him. No response for a week, so I email him again. He responds and says he'll check on my car and get back to me. That was a week ago. I emailed him yesterday and still haven't heard back.

I'm starting to get a little frustrated. Before I put my deposit down he always responded within a few hours to emails, now it's taking over a week. Is this normal or do I have a right to be annoyed? I don't want to be unreasonable but it seems kinda weird that I haven't been able to get ahold of him.

Was you're deposit in cash or check? If it was check, and it wasn't cashed yet put a stop payment on it, I bet he'll call back real quick after that.

It was a check but it's refundable anyway, that's what doesn't make sense. It's not like I've already paid for the car, so it seems like they'd want to keep up the good service they gave me in the beginning, at least until they get the down payment .

i say check out a different dealership, get a quote. go get your refund and head to the new dealership, between the two, i am sure someone wants your business.

That's definitely not normal. The salesmen and saleswomen at the Nissan dealership where I'm a tech take good care of their customers.

This is starting to be a common thread. I think I've read about a half a dozen accounts with people here on the V forum that have had problems with places they've left deposits. All of 'em got their deposits back, went to other dealerships, and had no problems.

Did you try the search radius trick on nissanusa.com yet? (View the inventories of all the dealerships in the area, even ones a little farther away?)

We've had better luck going and getting cars in stock at farther-away dealerships on this site, for the most part.

Thanks for the advice. The problem with me though, is that I want ABS and every dealer I've talked to has said there aren't any ABS-equipped Versas coming in anywhere in the next couple months. I guess I could order one and wait until December or January but that would reeeeeaaally suck, seeing as how I've already been waiting over a month for the one I put a deposit on.

AAGGGGHHH!!!! Why doesn't Nissan just make enough of these things to go around?!?!?!?

I feel your pain. After driving the Tucson for only 2 weeks, I really REALLY miss the Versa, its ability to park, and its fuel economy.

I was thinking to myself that I'd wish that AIG would total it so I could get another one, but there won't BE another one... it probably sadly will be faster to wait for this thing to get repaired, which may be 2 months.

I say get the sales manager name and speak with directly. Like actually show up and speak to him directly. The sales manager is normally the person responsible for managing vehicle inventories. He should be able to give you a straight answer. If he doesn't, threaten to take back your deposit. If he still doesn't give you an answer, take your money and run. Since you've been waiting for atleast a month, there should be a VIN tied to the car you've ordered. Request the VIN and they should be able to provide that as proof that you car is on the way.

He finally called me today and said he has a call into Nissan and he should know where my car is by Friday. Still seems kinda weird that it's taken him this long and he still doesn't even know where the car is, but at least I know he's still there.

He said they just got their first '07 Sentra in today and was kind of trying to sell me on that. I hope that doesn't mean there might be a problem with my Versa.

Sorry...seems like this applies here::::

Ed, the car salesman: Where is Mr. Griswold's Sports Wagon?

Davenport: I don't know sir.

Ed, the car salesman: I know what must have happened. It didn't come in. Now I can get you the Sports Wagon; the only problem is that it may take six weeks. I owe it to myself to tell you that if you're taking the whole tribe cross-country, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster is the way to go. You think you hate it now, but just wait until you drive it.

Clark Griswald: Ed, I'm not your average fool. Now I want my super sports wagon now, or I'm gonna take my business elsewhere!

I know about the Sentra. Our salesman wasn't shy about his disappointment that we weren't going to buy the Sentra but wanted the Versa instead. They have too many Sentras and not enough Versas and the dealerships are feeling the pain.

Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of proper training for sales professionals. It sounds to me like either your saleman is new and doesn't know any better or has been in the business and doesn't really care. It is guys like this that give us the horrible reputation.

It pisses me off to no end that this type of treatment is being given to Nissan customers. That is one thing our dealership is huge on is customer service. There is way too much competition out there to put up with that sort of treatment.

I suggest if you really want to do business with them that you ask to speak to the sales manager. 9 out of 10 times in this type of situation they will either take care of your deal personally or half it with another salesman. Either way that guy losses some or all of his commission.

You know what's strange. My sales guy called me too trying to offer me a Sentra on the lot instead of the Versa that's been ordered.

They don't want the Sentras! The salesman practically begged us to buy a Sentra.

I took my husband to the Nissan dealership to specifically buy a Sentra. We drove one, then drove the Versa. Guess what we bought! The new Sentras have better cupholders and CVT, though. I love my Versa!

Today I decided it couldn't hurt to make a round of calls to all the dealers within 100 miles of me since I haven't done it in a while. At one of the places I called, the salesman went out to check on the lot, called me back and said, "you're in luck, both Versas that we have have ABS."

When I asked to make sure that they were both SL's, he said, "oh no, they're both S's, no one's selling the SL's yet". He said his manager told him that there wasn't one single SL in the country!

At the end of the day, just as I suspected, no one had any with ABS. One place said they were getting a couple in but for some reason I don't believe them, seeing as how no one else could find any. So it looks like I'm just going to have to hope that my original deal works out as expected.

Called my dealer today and my guy said it looked like my car would be there on October 31st. That's definitely good news, but I'm waiting until I actually see the car to get really excited. Would be cool to get the car on Halloween I guess.

Because there aren't any, anywhere. I recently did a nissan-usa search of Versas in my area, and there are 4... all S automatics. That was 50 miles an 9 dealers. Other people are in the same boat where they live.

And some dealers are still only getting one allocation per month of 5 cars. Some dealers are starting to get more, but not nearly enough to keep up with demand.

Yea, so far no one's been given a definitive answer on the ABS. They'e putting them on the S but not the SL for some reason. There's rumors going around that Nissan's saving the ABS for the Sentra's and trying to get the SL buyers to buy the more expensive Sentra. Hmmmmm.

Oh boy, do I have an update...

After a couple days of calling, I got ahold of my salesman on Friday to get my VIN from him. He tells me that he can't find my car anywhere in the system now. Last week he told me it should be here on the 31st, now it's nowhere to be seen and supposedly Nissan hasn't returned his call. There is a car just like mine slotted to arrive in Dec, but he's not sure if that's mine and it got pushed back or what.

So, long story short, I'm seriously considering forgetting about the Versa and buying something else. The only problem is that there's not really anything else out there that fits the bill. This sucks.

I know of 3 SL manuals, 2 with ABS and 1 with convenience package... a bit of a drive from you, but they're there. What configuration were you looking for? Or were you looking for a CVT?

Damn, that's perfect except for the 6-speed. I'm partial to the CVT. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

Well, looks like my car isn't coming until Dec. If there was another car out there that I wanted, I would probably go buy it, if only because I don't really want to give Nissan my business after all this bull****, but unfortunately there isn't so I guess I'm stuck waiting another month.

Tell you what... wait another month, and if you get the car, you will know why you waited so long, and you will love yourself for it.

If it doesn't come in, I will personally drive down there with a selection of painful objects you may use on your salesperson. Including an angry ferret.
