can't torque upper ball joints

Well - so close to being done. I'm at the point to torque the upper ball joints and the stud spins when tightening the self locking nut.
There isn't a flat on the stud for a wrench and I loaded the control arms but is still will not allow me to even install the nut all the way….
what am I missing? thanks for the help

Done !!!
It makes sense now …..just not earlier……ha!
to torque the upper bag joints you have to tap down the taper of the ball joint stud into the matching taper of the yoke. To get the stud to finally seat and have enough friction to hold you will have to do the process a few times.
