help. stuck trying to remove the ECU on my 92 Q. Is it just those 2 big phillips on the top and bottom near the doorsill? Used WD40 but can't seem to get enough room/leverage. Any tips greatly appreciated.

1)You need to take off the glovebox2) simply unscrew the phillips on the bracket not the ECU itself.

So its the bracket holding the ECU, thats holding the ecu to the footwell.

I dont attempt to take off the ECU from its bracket just the bracket from the footwell.

The TCU is a bit harder to take out.

You gotta pull down that little plastic trim piece below the glovebox..... It will allow you to get face on with the screw, and its necessary to get the ECU out once its done.....

Also, you must unplug the big harness connector before trying to remove..... Be careful removing this, and make sure you remove it straigh off, and put it straight on, or you could bend or break a pin, and you'd have to get a new ECU (maybe a good excuse to get a stillen ECU..... Hmmmmm :D )

Most ECU upgrades want a core, so don't bend that pin too quickly-it could get expensive!

I think he's talking about the mounting screws that attach to the body of the car. I'd recommend getting a ratchet with the largest phillips head tip that'll fit installed, so that you can use one hand to push the screw driver tip into the screw, and the other to pull the wrench. It's about the only thing that worked for me to get one out - and you defintately don't want to chance stripping out the screw! I can't imagine trying to get in there with a drill if you did that...
