So, my 2001 I30 has been idling a little rough on occasion, but more so lately. It will sometimes even die at red lights. Code indicated things were too lean. Thought I'd try cleaning the MAF.

But I removed the MAF connector and Torx screws, but couldn't lift the thing out of the housing. It rotates freely, but will not come out.

Is there an o-ring or something that seals it down, or what could be the issue? Didn't want to force it without checking here first.

Thanks,
DBB

You are desribing the IACV/ECM failure get it to a nissan tech quickly you may luck out and only have to replace the IACV.

Where is the IACV, and can I replace it myself? I assume the ECM would need to be reprogrammed afterwards. When you say hurry, am I at risk of damaging something? It started doing this some months ago but then would go away. Now it's pretty much constant after the car warms up (doesn't seem to do it when cold).

I'd still like to clean the MAF. Any idea why I can't lift it out of the housing?

Wish I knew a Nissan tech. Can't afford the dealer right now... Lol

Thanks for your reply!

it's attached to the bottom of the throttle body and yes you can do it yourself. If it hasn't already it will short the ECM cauing the car to just shutof or not start at all.

Thought I'd post an update, in case anyone else may benefit... Took the car to my general mechanic, who tested the IACV, MAF, O2 sensors, and ECM as being good. They also checked for air leaks but found nothing. They noted that something was messing with the fuel trims, and suspected the fuel pump. However, they did not have the Infinity-specific connector to test the fuel system, and so did not want to replace a part without being certain.

So, looks like I'm off to the dealer to get it checked out... $$$

*** EDIT ***
Outkast had it right. Dealer says I need a new IACV. Started new thread at need-iacv-possibly-ecm-too-t569394.html
