i haven't been able to unlock my trunk after several methods. today, i unbolted the latch and took a closer look.it seems like something is jammed or not working right.i'm guessing the little black knub in the first pic is suppose to move whenever i pull up on the latch. however, it doesn't move at all. when i use the key or the unlock button, it doesn't move either. i even tried bangin on the knub w/ something but no luck.

anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? do i need a new latch system?

I wish I had my Maxima still. I had the EXACT same problem. It took me about an hour to figure it out. I think that silver piece in your pic has something to do with it, but I can't remember. I recall something in there the moved one way and would cause the issue you speak of, move it the other way and it was normal. Try messing with that.

well the silver piece is what hooks onto the trunk lid lock. the locking mechanism is shaped like a C that moves vertically but i can't get it to where it fully opens up. i played around w/ it for at least half an hour. this is kinda frustrating....

stick a flad screwdriver in where the latch is hooked together, and twist it...it should pop

is there any way in removing the top latching mechanism from the trunk lid then just replacing with another used latch?
