My Girlfriend's 95 Altima alarm goes off everytime she opens the door if she locks it. The only way to avoid it is to unlock and open the trunk first or run around to the passanger door and do the same. Is this a common problem? If so is it an easy fix?

Thanks for any help in advance,

Dave

is it a stock alarm? will it do it within 30 secs of locking the door? it sounds like the alarm may not be disarming when you unlock the drivers door. then you open the unlocked door and the alarm goes off because it is still armed. this could be a drivers door lock cyl switch, circuit for the switch, or smart entrance control unit. if i were you i would pull the door panel off and mess with the lock cyl switch.

Yes, it is all stock. No keyless or anything just gets that flashing "security" light on dash when you lock the door. All you have to do is unlock the driver door with the key and then open the door and it will start honking. But doesnt do it if you open the trunk with the ket then close the trunk. Then go open the driver door b/c unlocking the trunk, ulocked all the doors. The same thing goes for opening the passanger door with the key then going over the the driver's door.

Thanks,Dave

yeah, i think its prob in the drivers door. i havnt seen too many probs with smart entrance control units on altimas. darn lock switch may be unplugged or something. had one the other day on a max that had popped off and the switch got "out of time" when it was put back on.

heh, gets out the multimeter and pull the panel or keep going to the pass door first. ooh, or the ghetto fab fix. you could unplug the hood switch and have no alarm whatsoever. crud, or is that jumper the hood switch. ok nistech, top of your head, is the hood switch normally open or normally closed?

Talk to me like im stupid, becase I am. Hood switch? There is nothing in the car of value othere than her USF parking pass. As long as they still have electric locks is all she cares about.

Thanks again,Dave

when you open the hood you will see a little black rubber boot. it goes up when the hood is up and down when its shut. the boot is like 2 inches and the body of the switch with the connector is like 2 inches too. im going from memory but i want to say its on the drivers front of the engine compartment. it should only have two wires in the connector. you will know you found the right part when you touch it. you can compress the rubber boot(and the switch in it) with your finger easily. unplug that and see if it helps. if not, jump it with a piece of wire(paper clip). one of those will cause your alarm not to arm.

how about just replacing the switch on the driver door lock cylinder.

well chris that depends on weather your talking about the hood being open or closed...lol If the hood is open the swithc is normally closed. If the hood is closed the switch is normally open. It wont matter if you leave the switch open or closed the system will arm with the hood open but if you close the hood once it arms the alarm will go off.

Just replace the key switch on the the drivers door key cylinder and your problem will be solved.
