Hey all,

just trying to start my car to warm it up, but it seems there is a mechanism which prevents one locking the car if the door is open?

Do i need to learn how to use power locks? or is this an actual feature built into the car to prevent getting locked out of a running car?

Not sure what is going on with yours, but I started mine up last night, closed the door, pushed the button on the handle and it locked. I have the intelligent key, so I guess as long as the key is outside when you close the door it will allow you to lock the vehicle.

Yes, it's a feature. Read page 3-5 of the owners manual:

Quote »Lockout protectionWhen the power door lock switch (driver or frontpassenger) is moved to the lock position withthe key in the ignition switch or the IntelligentKey in the vehicle and any door open, all doorswill lock and unlock automatically. This function helps to prevent the keys frombeing accidentally locked inside the vehicle.[/quote]The manual door lock button/lever still works... just manually lock the door instead.

BTW, the keyless entry remote doesn't work when the key is in the ignition either.

You can open the door... hit the lock button... then start the ignition. That way the doors will remain locked.

Just make sure you have another set of keys to get in afterwards.

Also, the unlock button on your key will not work when the car is running. You will have to manually open the door with the key.

All I know is that it is possible to be in your Rogue, start the engine, walk inside your house with the keys in your coat pocket or purse, leave the coat or purse (and the keys) in the house, walk outside, and drive away. Without keys. And when you get to your destination and cut the engine, game over. because the engine wont start again. I know this, because I did it. Its easy to do. Luckily, it was to my neighbors house. I just laughed. There are warning beeps to remind you that you are outside without the keys, but if you are frazzled and in a hurry to get somewhere, its easy to do.

I'm glad I found this on search. I've been locked out of my '09 Rogue at least 3 times in the past year. I've left the keys in the ignition , with the engine off while pumping gas, and when I try to get back in, the door's locked. Another time at Lowes, backed up to load things in the back, turned it off, left the keys in the ignition, got out and locked out again. Fortunately, I have a spare key hidden under the body of the car and can get back in, but this is a frustrating flaw with this vehicle; have never had this happen on any other vehicle.

My Infiniti will actually turn it's engine off if I wonder too far from it with the key in my pocket. The Rogue will run happily like you say until ignition is switched off.

I'm wondering why Nissan is using 2 unique systems on these vehicles.
