Can't get new CV axle into transmission!

New axle won't seat all the way in. It looks slightly different from the original. What is this part? I think it is preventing the axle from going in all the way.

I edited your post to make the picture appear properly.
That ring there ALMOST looks like a little dust cover or something. Is it hollow on the inside (like, its a sleeve around that shank)?
If it is, and it is somehow preventing you from getting the axle on, you could always just trim that sleeve off.
If it ISN'T hollow, then I would say you have the wrong axle.

Yeah its hollow. the old one didn't have that on it. I'm going to take it off and try it again. Thanks.

Appears C clip needed on end of shaft?

There is a difference in CV axle length on the driver side (Left) for models with or without Limited Slip Differential. LSD models appear in Canada and in states where there is a lot of snow.
