I just brought a 1986 300zx, they guy I bought the car from was selling it because it would start but wouldn't stay running, died after a few seconds maybe 3.He said it was either the battery the timing or they digital dash power supply. I found that the fuseable like to the fule injector was fried so I replaced that as well along with a new battery and fule filter, I noticed that the negative battery cable was coming apart so I cut it and put a new termail on the end. I tried to start the car the fule pump would prime and it would crank but not turn over after about 20 try's it stopped working all together. The digital dash never came on but the head light did but they wouldn't pop up. Don't know what to do from here could use some have help please!

Sounds like another power issue. fusible links, fuses etc good? doe those non functioning circuits have power at their fuses?

I checked all the fuses you suggested them have power. The negative battery cable was pretty corroded. Should I try a whole new one?

i would replace that earth lead to start with if there is any corrosion and make sure the mounting point is good metal too,i would also check any other earth points while i was at it,if the fuses are all good i would see what happens then,if you can hear the fuel pump prime and the engine is turning over ok but not starting i would then check the ecu fault codes to see if it throws up a problem in the circuit
