Regarding... The switch on the climate control doesn't even light up.
If you have checked the 10 amp fuse (third from top, left side at driver's side kick panel), then check the dual pressure switch on the liquid tank/dryer. The switch opens on either high or low pressure, meaning you have too little refrigerant pressure or it is too high or it is disconnected/faulty. Could also be a blown bulb in the switch, so check for power to the compressor.
Regarding... Also where's the ground on the compressor? Does it ground out to the engine/bracket? And is there only one plug to the compressor with one wire?
No ground wire; compressor grounds via the mounts, as you suggested. One hot wire - when the switch is on, you should be able to measure 12 volts between the single hot wire (green with blue stripe) and any ground. If not, you aren't getting power to the compressor. While you are at it, you should check the magnetic clutch by touching a hot wire from the positive on the battery to the compressor hot/positive connector. If the clutch is good, you will hear it energize and pull in to engage. It is loud enough that you can hear it very easily.
