Can't find the part or the part number

I have a 2001 QX4 that comes with VQ35DE. My truck recently threw a P1135 code and after diagnosis, I pull the variable valve timing cover off and noticed the small gasket that guides oil from the cover into the cam phasers is torn.

Now I spent hours looking for the part number and I have a feeling that I have to buy the whole cover to get the gasket with it. The part for the cover is: 13041-2Y505.

Also I'm not asking for 15066-5E500, as that's the o-ring that seals the cover to the engine block. I'm asking for the o-ring that attaches to the cover and goes inside the cam phaser. Anyone knows where I can find that o-ring or at least the specification for it so I find a generic one?

I believe you mean the gallery gaskets, and Nissan never sold those as piece parts. You can only get them aftermarket from places like Z1 and CZP.

No no, I don’t mean gallery gasket, I’m talking about the “seal rings” in the picture I’m attaching.

I'm a little puzzled by that, because the only "seals" there are expansion rings that fit the front cover to the phaser. They don't really seal anything, they're more like floating bushings. They probably are part of the cover, but I don't think I've ever actually seen any wear out because they're under forced lubrication. The actual "seal ring" goes where the red arrow points, where the pressurized oil enters the cover. Those are the 15066-5E500's in the parts diagram, they're metal-sleeved and they fit right where the diagram shows.

Thank you for your answer. You're right about the collared O-ring (seal) but there is one more O-ring that I'm highlighting in your picture in yellow and that one seems to not be sold separately. I have tried replacing it with a generic harbor freight O ring but I couldn't find the right fit.

I know they're square cut, you probably need to go to McMaster-Carr or Grainger to find something like that. I'm still not sure why you're replacing it, unless maybe it's mangled or was run dry. Maybe somebody else here has seen something I haven't, but I don't think I've ever seen one of those go bad.

I usually like these types of puzzles where documentation has been messed up in online formats, making it difficult to identify the correct part but this one has me stumped. Clearly the FSM shows images of both the seal ring and that other metal collared O-ring. It also indicates the importance of replacing the seal ring with specific installation notes. Similar online images at Amayama, Infiniti Parts Deal, Nissan Parts Deal, and others show one or both of these seals and label them both as the metal collared O-ring even when the image shown is clearly indicating the picture of the seal ring and its location, not the collared ring, just like in the FSM. I couldn't crack this one to find a definite answer to the part number for the seal ring but one rabbit hole I went down at Z1 Offroad pointed me to 13042-3HD0A, but that just feels wrong.

Thank you for your answer... it's really really odd to me that there is obviously a seal ring there but there is no part number for it for a consumable part. The obvious answer to me is, replace the "entire cover with the seal" which is crazy!!

Claude actually directed me to 13042-3HD0A as well and that is for VQ40 as you mentioned. I tried one the closest o ring I could find and didn't work and now going to try another random one. No idea how to go about this other than that.

It may not actually be dried, whatever rubber compound Nissan uses for those is very stiff and behaves almost like a lightweight spring. Like I said earlier, they're expansion rings, not really a seal in the same sense you'd think of a crankshaft seal or a regular o-ring.

I found the part number through Nengun on a Nissan Elgrand with a VQ35DE engine. A5056-2Y500 is the number but unfortunately that number does not appear valid in the USA. However, it can be ordered through Amayama.

Wow, I can't believe you managed to find it and thank you so much for the links. I contacted Nengun for a quote and I'll order at least 2 from either of the websites as soon as I get the quote back. Really surprised why the part number is not mentioned in the US version of the FSM!

I went ahead and ordered 2 of those off Amayama. It's going to take roughly 4-6 weeks for them to arrive... can't wait and hopefully that fixes the problem!
