So, I go to fill up my car today and after 3 bucks it's spilling all over the car. It took me a long time to put in 20 bucks.

What could be wrong.

And to top it off, the Check engine light came on. I wrote it down then I cleared it with the scan gage P0448???? I think .. It's in the car and the car is in the driveway.....

P0448 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Shorted

well the code would be a separate problem from the gas fill issue. The bottom of the fill tube, or the tank itself, should have a second little flap to keep gas from getting out (if you flip the car over......) it may be getting stuck.

Check the filler tube & ventilation tubing.

There are quite a few possible causes...

Most fill tubes also have a mesh filter - if it is blocked, it won't fill.

There is also a fuel evaporative pressure valve... if the valve is bad, the tank won't take more fuel.

EVAP CEL codes are usually caused by a poorly sealing gas cap. It is possible that your fuel fill issue is related, though. Anytime the fuel system sees a loss in pressure retention it'll trigger an EVAP code and the CEL (check engine light). The fuel system is supposed to be a closed system to prevent fuel vapor escape for emissions standards, which is why the code trips. You may have an issue elsewhere in the fuel/EVAP system that's causing one or both problems, or it may just be your gas cap.

EVAP codes will normally reset themselves (and the CEL) after they see the fuel system is sealing properly. Usually with "faulty" EVAP codes triggered by a gas cap not sealing properly, all you need to do is tighten or replace (as in get a new cap, not just re-secure) the cap and drive for a little while and it'll reset.

Thanks again!

or in New Jersey as well. I think I would lose my mind having to wait for a pump jockey all the time. I'm a college graduate...I think I can fully understand how to pump my own gas thank you very much. lol

SO now the check engine comes on all the time. P 0448 code (almost sure)

I guess it's time for a trip to the dealer.

Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Shorted

The most likely problem you have seems to be the vent control valve and EVAP canister. Might be filled with dirt or the pressure sensor failed. Hope this helps!!

It's suppose to go to the dealer on Tuesday but for the last couple days, the light has not come on and I am able to fill the car up without spilling. I am thinking I will cancel the appointment. We had a warmer day (-8 cel) and I think that helped.

I will let you guys know if it comes back but as for now, I think it had something to do when I washed my car at about -28 celcious.

Sounds like you got water in the Fuel Vent tube, water probably froze block off the vent causing the gas tank not to fill up and throw a CEL.

I've noticed you specifically have alot of problems with your V. Are the trainees taking advantage of such a great car? I haven't had any important problems with mine yet.

I bought mine early in production........... so sucks to be me!

And for the problems, they have all been stupid small things. You should find the thread that I first posted and you can see all the things that I had issues with. A good thing the service at the dealer goes beyond to help me out as they know the nature of the business.

I did get 80 000 kms out of my first brakes so that shows that yes students are hard but they don't drive the crap out of the car.

And yet I bought mine in early production and have had no problems with it. After 130,000 km I'm still going strong on the original brakes, too. Of course, I went 100,000 km on the original tires, which shows you I'm not too hard on mine, either!
