:help guys,

My other car - 95 maxima with AT.One day the heator core blew and coolant leaked all over the place.

Got the thing replaced ($700) but the car doesn't run the same.

symptoms:1. Cold starts are really rough.. Idles really bad.2. CANNOT get past 3400rpm's (in any gear.. ) The only way I can describe it - is like the REV LIMITER is kicking in.

Per my mechanic, he said it is probably the ECU. Coolant that spilled on it may have caused a short. I just need another opinion. (going to meet someone with anther 95 Maxima today and borrow his ECU)

Anyone else have any thoughts/suggestions/ideas?

Thanks NICOrunyun

nope he pretty much gave it to ya like it is. the coolant dumps right on to the ecu at its connector when the core goes. seen it a couple times already.

ecm replacement cause it frys the board inside. the ones i have seen fried was due to the evap core drain being pluged and the condensation from the a/c built up and spilled over through the foot vents on to the ecm but the heater core would dump out in the same place. try taking the ecm out and blowing out its connector are with compressed air and try to blow out the connector on the harness as well before you replace the ecm. it may simply still have moisture in it.

coolant reservoir tank? that doesn't really matter unless your driving long periods of time in hot weather

was it just a motor swap.. or AT to 5spd swap also? Maybe they accidently tugged on the throttle cable?

I DONT KNOW.. I DONT WANT TO TAKE IT BACK THERE THOUGH.. THEY TOOK 3WKS JUST TO TAKE OUT THE OLD ENGINE AND PUT THIS OTHER ENGINE IN... NO AT TO 5SPD.. WELL NOW WHEN I STARTED IT UP IT MAKES LIKE A HELLA LOUD WHINYING NOISE.. AND THEN STOPS.. LIKE FROM A A/C COMPRESSOR OR SOMETHING.. BUT ITS NOT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT INSTALL MY A/C(MORONS), THEY SAID THEY COULDNT FIND A WIRE TO THE A/C SO THEY R GONNA HAVE TO LOOK AT IT AGAIN.. AND AS FAR AS THE RESERVIOR I LIVE IN SOUTH TEXAS WIT 94% HUMIDITY.. I DROVE FROM THE SHOP TO THE CAR WASH TO GET GAS TO MY HOUSE.. AND AS I OPENED THE HOOD IT WAS STEAMING OUT AND BLEW OUT ALL THE COOLANT OR WHATEVER WAS IN THERE.. IT WAS ALL BROWN... ORIGINALLY THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO USE MY OLD ENGINE GOOD PARTS AND PUT THEM TOWARDS THIS NEWER ENGINE THAT IS IN MY CAR NOW..(I HAD A BAD BLOCK GOOD ENGINE AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING A GOOD BLOCK SO I DID BUT WIT A BAD ENGINE..) SO THERE ARE A LOT OF MESSUPS... AND I DONT WANT TO TAKE IT BACK TO THEM SO I CAN BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR ANOTHER 3WKS.. LAWSUIT TIME!NOW THE CAR DOESNT EVEN TURN ON AND THE BATTERY'S DEAD.. BUT I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD ADJUST THE IDLE CONTROL BOLT AND BRING DOWN THE IDLE? IS THAT RIGHT? PLEASE HELP AND GIVE ME UR THOUGHTS..JOE

Just curious, but it sounds awfully familiar to the 240SX "5th Gear Sensor" problem. Do the Maximas have any sort of "Gear Sensor" ?

UPDATE:

So, I search and search...

search and search... and I finally find the right ECU at some junkyard (thank god for internet search =)

Anyhow, removed the stock ECU - all crusted with coolant inside. and replaced it with the ECU I got from a junkyard and VOILA!

Works perfectly. I just picked up a mint 95 GXE Maxima for $1500 + $80 for the ECU.

Thanks for all those with advice
