OK. First off, this is my first post since becoming a member and I would like to thank everyone for their awesome and helpful input. I've had 2 S13's both of which I was able to fix thanks to the info i found throughout the various NICO posts. Unfortunately I dont have either of them any more and I miss them dearly...

I do however plan on buying another one within the next few months and a spare motor or 2 to "build up". I think I should just get straight to the point and tell you my plan of approach.

* S13 Hatch* KA24E motor* Spare KA24E motor rebuild for boost

The only problem I have is everytime I look at a new post, my mind changes. I want to go with a boosted KA engine (NO SR or RB too many out here in Wichita, I want to be unique!!! Besides, KA has SOOOOO much potential!). I have a few questions. I ONLY have hands on experience with SOHC motors, I have never touched a DOHC!!!

1) I see a bunch of topics showing links to sites that offer BOTTOM END parts for E & DE but when it comes to the HEAD, these sites ONLY offer DE parts. I'm wanting to boost 5-7psi to begin with, should I just find a S13 with a DE already in it or should I find a more common and cheaper KA24E. (BTW people out here know what they have.. So an S13 SOHC would sell for 500-1000 whereas a DOHC would go for 750-1250) Right now Im on a very limited budget, boosting wont come for a while. Basically should i just go ahead and keep with the motor that I am familiar with (SOHC) or should I go with the DOHC???

2) The reason for this build is not for drifting. If I wanted to set up a drift car I could search the VAST amount of posts, but I havn't found very many that pertain to drag, and if they do, they are either SR, CA, or RB swaps. An occasional slide is alright but I want this ride to be smooth yet strong, able to pull 12.5-13.5 quarter times. What would you suggest?

* One more thing... For the 5-7psi boost, what turbo would be ideal for this?* Just to remember at least the bottom end will be rebuild with AMS advanced rebuild kit (either E pr DE)

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

it's really up to personal preference whether you want to go sohc or dohc..I would go for the dohc though, they're not that much more than the sohc and you get two cams! better for revving, and power out of the hole and parts availability imo.Are you going to rebuild the ka with lower cr pistons? in that case, you may need more boost to run 12.5-13.5 quarter times like maybe 12psi? Turbo? i just like the t3/t4, i think you should at least go t3 tho

Well like I said, I have experience with the SOHC but it would also be great to learn about the DOHC. As for rebuilding the lower end... if I went DOHC, would going this route be a bad idea.... http://www.amsperformance.com/...d=303

8.8:1 CR Pistons... should I leave the stock bore or go .020" over???

BTW I've only read up on turboing, a buddy of mine will be helping me do part of this build, i think he knows more about turbos. What CR should I be looking for?

Man the range of parts available from the sohc and dohc is huge. Its really hard to find parts for an SOHC. The engines arnt much more complex, if you know one engine you can know the other.

I would go with dohc if i were you.

8.8 CR is fine, its your call really. You dont need to bore over unless your cylinder walls are scarred at all. The problem is however is that you really dont know what its going to look like in there till you go to do the engine work. Personally, i would go overbore simply so its a new surface to seal against.

Yeah? The more and more I look, the easier it looks to go DET. As far as the boring over... your advise makes sense.

I think I've got it!KA24DE.020" bored overT3 turbo

now I just have to accuire the car, the motor, the turbo, the parts, time, AND MONEY!!!

If anyone else has any advice... feel free to share it.

add 8.8:1 pistons to that list bro!

depending on your hp goals, t3/t4 50 trim (.63 a/r exhaust side) and (.50 a/r compressor side) may be good choice as well, just my .02
