HI EVERYONE. I'M NEW TO THIS FORUM. I HAVE BEEN SHOPPING AROUND FOR A NICE 97 KOUKI AND WANTING TO MAKE A COMPLTE ENGINE SWAP. I HEARD THAT IT IS TOUGH TO PASS STATE INSPECTION ON A 97'. IS THAT TRUE? OTHERS TOLD ME TO BUY A 95-96 INSTEAD AND CONVERT THE FRONT BUMPER, HEADLIGHT, HOOD INTO A 97. BUT I THINK IT'S WASTING TOO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT FOR SUCH AN UPGRADE. IF I CAN GET SOME OPINION, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS.

You will probably fail emissions with an SR in your car. Do some research please.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry so much about whether it should pass, I'd worry more about can you get it passed.

I swapped into a '93, and while it would have passed anyway...the guy that did my inspection looked at my car one time.

And that was to put the new sticker on.

Didn't check headlights, signals, anything.Didn't even look at the odometer, he just asked me what it read.Rofl.

You can get it passed somewhere. No worries.

97 is OBDII , and you cant mess with it. Better make it a track car.

I know in MD and DE you cant pass with an SR.
