Probably will get moved to the A/V section (you can browse through that to see what most people have done). You wont need to cut anything in the dash. There have been a number of members that have gone with some refurbed Kenwood units and been happy. That might end up pushing the budget a bit, but it's probably worth it to save up and do it right. You generally get what you pay for when it comes to head units. So if you grab a cheap head unit, it will probably end up lacking some key features that you may not realize you need or will need in the future.

Like Applebonker mentioned above, you'll get what you pay for. For $500 bucks I would get a refurbished head unit with navigation like Kenwood

Refurbished DNX-7120 ($550 and up)

http://cgi.ebay.com/KENWOOD-DN...orted

or

Brand new DNX5120 (less than $500)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KENWOO...orted

But again, you'll miss a few key features if you ever want to upgrade your whole sound system.

whether you buy a brand new or a refurbished unit, you still need to get a center console dash kit, wire harness, antenna adapter, etc...

If you buy anything off Ebay or online, you should get Square Trade warranty as well.

I just installed the Kenwood DNX 120 in my car for $600 for the H/U on crutchfield.com and $30 for the OEM dash kit. I Like the unit so far! it has a great GPS system(garmin) and other good features
