It's what Infiniti did to hold the deadly hydrostatic rod in place during services. You gotta crank that baby down before digging into the engine (I've exposed the truth about the hydrostatic rod in past posts).

ScottJackson is right. I have seen one to many mechanics lose a limb because of that before. Even worse is the massive toll it takes on unsuspecting owners, thats why the resale value of an infiniti is so low, most owners never live to sell it themselves but their family is the one that has to do it. Be very careful, I recommend finding the most insured member of your family and making them toy with it

Isn't that the plastic screw thing that causes Y33s to miss at idle, if you mess with it?

that is only if you VERY lightly mess with it. Removing it can be fatal to the owner and car, along with any cats within a several mile radius

All I can say is read ScottJackson's post a couple more times, it tells you all about the rod and the dangers lol. For now, you dont need to worry about it killing you or anything else, or the car. Calm down lol

Read his post, the last few letters explain it all, let me quite the important part for you

Oh wow, I actually laughed out loud. That hasn't happened in a while. I thought by now someone would have a real answer of what that screw is. However, my real and honest advice is to not screw with a screw you don't know. Seriously. If that's for the throttle blade or something like that, just hope it's not as bad as resetting the earlier Q throttle screws once you mess them up. EDIT: Nevermind, I was going off my memory of the picture as I looked at it this morning. I see it's a ways away from the throttle body. Still, I'd not touch it until you know what it is. I know it's too late for that, but hopefully someone will come and say what it is and how to set it correctly again.

You can take a knowledgeable professionals word, or you can take all of our words! Somebody please, please, get those myth people to test this out. Im sure we could generate a few stories, setup a few fake sites that correlate, and have a great laugh

Seriously, that screw covers the port where they hooked up the BG machine and sucked out .4/liter of displacment and horsepower from the vh45de to create the 4.1 liter engine!

Alright... all fun aside now. You did not damage anything by loosening the screw. You may have set your idle higher than normal though. Essentially this is the adjustment screw that controls how much "extra" air is let into the engine to determine idle speed.

I highly recommend that you read your FSM (Factory Service Manual) so that you can reset everything back to where it was. Follow this link and look at page EC-35.
